July 31, 2013: Starting from today July 31, Android Phone users will now be able to use a pared down version of Microsoft Office software on their phones. The Office software which will be available on a USD 100 a year subscription though is compatible with Android phones it is not compatible with Android tablets. This release comes close on the heels of Microsoft launching an iPhone version of Office, but this too does not work on iPads.

In a blog post made by the company, they wrote “Office 365 subscribers will now be able to access, view, and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents with Windows Phone, iPhone and Android phones.” With this launch Microsoft is getting into the unchartered waters of Android market a market from where it is facing the maximum competition for its Surface tablet and Windows Phones.

The new Microsoft Office software which would be available on Google Play Store is compatible with Android Ice Cream Sandwhich and Jelly Bean.
