September 17, 2014: The kiwi fruits that are cultivated in the eastern most state of India, Arunachal Pradesh are considered rich in aroma and flavor. These fruits are now used to produce a high quality kiwi wine that has a very crisp and fresh. This kiwi wine that has been extracted from the fruits has been formally launched.

The new kiwi wine is branded ‘Arun Kiwi’ and the brand name evidently carries the name of the state as well. Arunachal Pradesh carries the credits for being the largest producer of kiwi fruits in the country, claimed Tage Tatung, APHPM&PB Managing Director.

This top quality wine is produced eventually after signing a MoU between the Arunachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing & Processing Board (APHPM&PB) and Hill Crest Foods & Beverages Pvt Ltd based in Pune in December 2013. This MoU was signed after considering the surplus cultivation and value added for the fruit processing, claimed an executive of the state’s APHPM&PB department.

Across the world, there are few countries such asNew Zealandthat produce kiwi wine. It is estimated that after a few years, the state should be in a position to export the Arun Kiwi brand to other countries as well.

As it is the initial state of the kiwi wine’s launch, its pricing is kept pretty low for the promotional purposes. This will definitely contribute in promoting the kiwi fruit farming, thereby helping the farmers to add more value to it. So long, the Arunachal Pradesh government has not been making any profit, and it was incurring some losses as well.

The executive has also suggested that it would be great if the kiwi fruit traders come to Arunachal Pradesh rather than importing the fruit from other countries. It is claimed that the state government to support, promote and welcome these ventures.

The fresh new brand of kiwi wine, Arun Kiwi was launched on Friday in Pune and a part of the Hill Crest Foods & Beverages Pvt Ltd, Rhythm Winery is sourcing over 2.5 tonnes of kiwi fruits from the state to brew the wine. As per the signed MoU, the revenues from this business will go to APHPM&PB and Rhythm Winery will also be a service provider that works on project basis.
