Co-optex eco-friendly saris become trendsetters in Tamil Nadu

The eco-friendly product trend is catching up in every segment. Likewise, the eco-friendly saris seem to have emerged as the latest fashion statement among women. The concept has been introduced by Co-opetx, Tamil Nadu Handloom Weaver’s Co-operative Society Limited. These eco-friendly saris are a part of the products that are displayed at the on-going expo. Also, the other products of Co-optex are also displayed in the expo.

The cotton that is used for weaving these eco-friendly saris was cultivated without using pesticides or fertilizers. Hence, this type of cotton is called organic cotton. When it is dyed with chemical-free natural colors or vegetable colors, this organic cotton fabric becomes non-allergic, non-toxic and environment-friendly as well.

Regarding this new trend, K Yuvraj, the Senior Regional Manager of Co-optex stated that these eco-friendly saris are woven by the traditional weavers in Coimbatore’s Negammam area. Initially, these were introduced in Tamil Nadu and it will be followed by Andhra Pradesh.

These eco-friendly cotton saris come in soothing colors with attractive colors and design in the border and pallu. Also, as these saris as non-allergic and non-toxic, they are good for skin. The eco-friendly saris are priced in the range between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000.

He further said that the photo and addresses of the weavers will be stuck to the respective sari. He added that they are targeting the teenage girls, homemakers and professionals. The Tamil Nadu government was widening 20 percent rebate on the varieties of silk and cotton saris.

The Co-optex showroom is located at Hotel Roopa Building on Balmatta Road in the city of Mangaluru. In Bengaluru, there are 14 showrooms of Co-optex including the two new showrooms located at Ulsoor and Koramangala.
