July 10, 2014: Honda which has been basking on the glory of the success of its mid -sized compact sedan Amaze has been buoyant about its performance and is all set to overthrow Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) as the third biggest car maker in India. The Japanese car manufacturer which is working on the affordability factor to appeal to the price conscious and mileage conscious Indians has recorded a growth of 75 per cent and sold 16,316 units in the month. Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the Indian car market scene followed by Hyundai and Mahindra & Mahindra.

M&M saw its sales go down by 3 per cent and the company sold 16,780 units which is just 464 units more than Honda. Honda is looking forward to acquire the third position and its pursuit has already lined up couple of new launches including a multi-purpose vehicle ‘Mobilio’ which is going to be launched on July 23. Speaking about this increase in sales, Jnaneswar Sen, Sr VP (sales & marketing) at Honda Cars India was quoted as saying “These numbers and growth rates are sustainable. We are confident that we will maintain this momentum.”

Honda in the recent past has come a long way after launching the most expensive hatchback Jazz priced at Rs.7 lakh five years ago which had a lot of negative reviews for the company. Since then the company has been investing a lot in R&D activities in India to bring down the manufacturing cost and thereby bring down the price of its various models. The company has been actively engaging with local suppliers and continuously launching new models.

Honda has recently launched a new model of City and earlier launched models like Brio and Amaze in the market which have been highly successful. Besides being aggressively priced bringing out diesel variants of these vehicles have also helped Honda to strengthen its position.
