Ethnographic research is a data collection method, much similar to that of observational research. Other than observational research, ethnographic research involves the direct interaction with target group. Here the researcher will observe and interact with customers to find out their opinion and perceptions related to a product. Anthropological researchers often visit consumers in their homes or offices and collect  information. Corporate are employing this strategy for understanding their customers in a deep and better manner.
