Organizations usually carry out research to identify the recent changes taking place in the marketing environment. Primary research is any type of research where researcher collects information from original or primary data. In this type of research, researcher, usually visit the market place directly to find information they are seeking for.

Different data collection methods including surveys, observation method and personal interviews can be conducted as part of primary research.  By observing customers behavior to particular market situations, researcher can draw conclusions on changing trends and customer satisfaction. By telephonic or face to face interview, researchers can directly record the responses of customer. Primary Research is also conducted by experiments and trials on a new strategy/product or by collecting opinions from focus groups.
