Micromax to launch 30 smartphones in 2013

Jan 22, 2013: Micromax, the domestic mobile handset maker which has been on an aggressive spree has announced that it will be launching 30 new smartphones in 2013. They are also trying to expand their portfolio in the normal mobile handset category and tablets and aiming for the market leader position. The company is trying to create ripples in the market with its Canvas series of smartphone. Micromax recently launched its Canvas HD smartphone which is an advanced phone compared to its predecessor Canvas and Canvas II which was introduced in the latter half of last year. The phone which has got a five inch touch screen and Android Jellybean operating system has been launched in the “phablet” category.

Micromax has been really doing well in the smartphone category with 40-45 per cent of the revenues coming from this and last year they had shipped 1,98,100 units of five inch category which shows the companies relative strength in the category. According to data from CyberMedia Research, smartphones constitute more than 5 per cent of the total handset sales in India and Samsung leads the race in this category with 41.6 per cent market share followed by Nokia and Blackberry.
