May 30, 2014: In a major move, Microsoft announced its bid to move to Internet “cloud” by tying up with business service software provider Salesforce.com. From now on people would be able to access the services of Salesforce.com through Microsoft Windows powered smartphones or tablets. The features of Salesforce will be embedded into Microsoft Office 365 for this purpose.

Speaking about this partnership, Satya Nadella, Chief Executive, Microsoft said “We are excited to partner with Salesforce.com and help customers thrive in a mobile and cloud-first world.” Marc Benioff, Chief Executive of Salesforce was quoted as saying, “Today is about putting the customer first. Together with Microsoft, we are building bridges that allow customers to be more productive.”

With this joint venture billions of Microsoft users in one stroke would be able to use the cloud based services of Salesforce. Salesforce has been offering cloud based online services for managing marketing teams and other company operations. Last week Microsoft had unveiled its new tablet Surface Pro 3 which has all the features of a powerful laptop. The users will be able to access Salesforce.com through smartphones or tablets powered by Windows starting next year.
