Most Indian Instagram users are elite, reveals study

The mobile application of photo sharing social network Instagram has almost doubled the number of the monthly active users in the country over the last year. Also, most of its users in India are from the higher income households, reveals a study conducted by Instagram. This trend of having a majority of the elite users on its board is likely to help the company attract more advertisers on the platform of Instagram.

As per a recent survey that was done with Nielson, the market researcher, the Managing Director, Kirthiga Reddy at Facebook India revealed the following. The survey revealed that almost 37 percent of the Instagram users are above 18 years of age in India. These users own a car and of them 25 percent has postpaid mobile connections. Also, 90 percent of the Instagram users in India are below 30 years of age.

The social networking giant Facebook acquired the photo sharing service Instagram for a deal of $1 billion in the year 2012. As of now, Instagram has a user base of 400 million on a global scale. Almost 100 million users of the platform reside in Asia and Europe. Instagram has not shared the number of active users specifically in India. In 2015, the photo sharing service opened its platform of businesses of different sizes across the world in the form an advertisement platform.

In the country, the advertisers on the photo sharing service include Paper Boat, P&G, Nestle, Sportskeeda, and TrulyMadly Matchmakers. The executive further stated that over 50 percent of the Instagrammers in India have frequently bought products as well as services from the brands that they follow on the platform. Eventually, the elite user base that exist on the platform in India will definitely contribute to a rise in the number of advertisers on the platform.
