Nov 28, 2012: Close on the heels of the hike in international and domestic airfares, travellers are in for a shock and more bad news awaits them. The Indian hoteliers have increased the room tariffs by 8-15%. Usually the fares starts going up from Winter to March and the last two weeks of December remains the peak season, but this year the tariffs have started going up from the last week of November itself. The room occupancy comprises 60% of the hotel revenue and the tariffs have been hiked expecting a buoyant tourist season. This year the hoteliers expect the domestic travelers to drive the demand. Some of the major hotels which have already hiked room rates are Leela Goa (increase of 8%) and ITC hotels (increase of 8-12%).
