Seqlo’s advanced RT-PCR–based testing kits detect early water contamination

The recent fatalities in Noida and Indore come as a wakeup call for water testing houses and water management bodies across India to deploy RT-PCR–based testing kits for the early and fast detection of bacterial and viral contaminations in drinking water.

New Delhi: January 22, 2026 – Clean drinking water is a basic human right. When lives are lost and people suffer from bacterial infections caused by water contamination, the need for faster and more accurate water quality testing becomes critical. Seqlo by DSS Imagetech provides real-time PCR-based water testing kits that detect pathogens including bacteria and viruses in water.

Among the most common deadly  bacteria and viruses found in water are Salmonella, Coliforms (found in the water in Indore), E coli (contaminated water in Noida), Shigella, Vibrio cholera, Campylobacter jejuni, Legionella, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, Hepatitis A and Enterovirus. In view of the BIS guidelines that the  viruses cannot be tested by time-consuming traditional culture methods, RT-PCR-based testing becomes the recommended method of diagnosis.

“As concerns around water safety continue to grow around India, deploying advanced diagnostic technologies such as RT-PCR by water authorities pan India become crucial for early detection, timely response and improved public health outcomes. The Seqlo kits are rapid, highly sensitive and specific, cost effective and can be performed routinely with minimum manpower,” said Dr. Karn Pratap Singh – Sr. Scientist at DSS Imagetech.

As recommended by FSSAI, water samples undergo overnight enrichment before testing. The Seqlo water testing kits can detect any bacterial pathogens in 1.5 hours and viral contamination in 3 hours. In a crisis similar to what happened in Indore and Noida, lives can be saved with such speed and accuracy. Unlike traditional culture-based methods, the RT-PCR method detects pathogens by identifying their DNA or RNA, making the process more sensitive, specific, and reliable.

These kits can be used to test drinking water, groundwater, and industrial water samples, enabling comprehensive surveillance of water quality across different environments. Each kit supports 100 tests, allowing water management bodies and testing houses to monitor and identify contamination risks and implement preventive action.

Seqlo’s technology is already being adopted at scale with 200+ installations across India and international markets by clients like Amul, Nestlé, Hatsun, and ITC.

This innovation aligns with DSS Imagetech’s broader vision of building India’s most advanced, technology-led food safety ecosystem, supported by local manufacturing, training, and service capabilities.
