National, April 28 2026: redRail, the rail ticketing platform from redBus and an IRCTC authorised partner, has launched a first-of-its-kind feature RAC Protect, a paid add-on aimed at addressing a long-standing gap in the train booking experience for RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) passengers. Built around a “Confirm or Save 50%” assurance, the feature ensures that if a RAC ticket is not confirmed after chart preparation, customers receive 50% of the ticket fare back as a travel voucher, while confirmed tickets continue as usual.
The feature addresses one of the most common uncertainties in train travel, helping users book with greater confidence during high-demand periods. Under the current system, passengers booking RAC tickets pay the same fare as those with confirmed tickets, despite sharing a side-lower berth. This creates a long-standing gap where passengers pay full fare despite receiving a shared travel experience, a concern consistently highlighted by travellers. RAC tickets are often the only viable option on high-demand routes, making this mismatch a common reality for a large set of train travellers. RAC Protect directly addresses this through a simple, outcome-linked benefit.
When a user books a RAC ticket with RAC Protect:
- If the ticket gets fully confirmed, the passenger receives a full berth with no change
- If the ticket remains RAC after chart preparation, 50% of the ticket fare is returned as a travel voucher
- The voucher can be used on redRail or redBus (as per applicable terms)
The feature is particularly relevant for passengers travelling on high-demand routes, as well as those who frequently face uncertainty or discomfort while travelling on RAC tickets. This includes passengers who currently pay full fare but may not receive a full berth, as well as long-distance and overnight travellers for whom sharing a seat can be inconvenient. It also brings added assurance for women and elderly passengers who prefer greater certainty and comfort while planning their journeys, while addressing hesitation around RAC bookings driven by post-booking uncertainty
Commenting on the feature, Prakash Sangam, CEO, redBus said, “At redRail, our focus goes beyond enabling bookings to solving real customer pain points that impact travel decisions. RAC bookings have always involved a trade-off, where customers pay the full fare without certainty about the experience. With RAC Protect, we are addressing this gap in a simple and transparent way, ensuring that customers either get a confirmed berth or receive meaningful value back. This is part of our broader effort to build a more dependable and user-centric train booking experience, as we continue to strengthen redRail as a trusted platform for rail travellers.”
As more users turn to digital platforms for train bookings, redRail continues to invest in features that address real customer uncertainties and improve overall travel confidence. RAC Protect is part of a broader effort to make train booking more transparent, reliable, and user-centric, especially during high-demand periods. As the platform continues to grow, redRail remains focused on simplifying complex travel scenarios and building greater trust among rail passengers across the country.
