New Delhi, June 5 2026: The Women’s Hospital, India’s first multi-speciality hospital dedicated exclusively to women, has announced the appointment of Dr. Raghuram Mallaiah as Executive Director – Neonatology. The appointment marks an important step in TWH’s mission to build a comprehensive maternal and newborn care ecosystem, with a strong focus on advanced neonatal intensive care, safer outcomes and specialised support for high-risk newborns.
Dr. Mallaiah is a highly experienced general paediatrician and neonatologist based in New Delhi, with over 25 years of expertise in the field. He obtained his medical degree from Bangalore Medical College in 1994 and pursued postgraduate training in paediatrics and neonatology in the United Kingdom from 1994 to 2004. He also holds an MRCP(UK) Paediatrics qualification, earned in 1999.
Dr Raghuram Mallaiah has also introduced the first pro bono human milk bank – Amaara Human Milk Bank at The Women’s Hospital, an initiative aimed at supporting maternal and neonatal care. This milk bank is an important lifeline for premature babies as it removes the need for formula, and all babies in our NICU will be exclusively on breast milk, which is life-saving! This will be one of the key differentiators of the department at TWH. He will also lead the development of TWH’s neonatal intensive care services, including the integrated NICU, neonatal transport programme, advanced newborn therapies, home phototherapy and lactation support.
Additionally, as part of its neonatal care programme, TWH is developing North India’s first fully integrated NICU, supported by the GE satellite monitoring system and a command-centre-enabled care model. The integrated NICU has been designed to bring automation, connected monitoring, eliminate human errors, real-time data capture and coordinated clinical oversight into neonatal intensive care, thereby creating an intelligent ecosystem. The Integrated NICU helps reduce the scope for manual error, supports infection control, improves clinical decision-making and strengthens outcomes for critically ill newborns.

The department will also offer advanced neonatal therapies including
- Inhaled nitric oxide therapy, used for babies with severe breathing difficulties who may not respond adequately to conventional or high-frequency ventilator support
- Whole body cooling, used in select cases of birth asphyxia to help improve neurological outcomes.
- TWH will also bring in brain wave monitoring for newborns(Amplitude Integrated EEG), an advanced capability that supports closer neurological assessment in critically ill babies. One of the few units in the country offering this.
In addition, TWH has a dedicated neonatal transport team to transfer babies from different parts of Delhi NCR. The hospital will also be able to support air ambulance transfers for newborns requiring specialised care.
Dr. Mallaiah’s appointment is part of The Women’s Hospital’s larger effort to strengthen its clinical leadership and expand its portfolio across women’s health and newborn care. As more experienced specialists join its multidisciplinary team, TWH aims to build a more integrated, life-stage-led care model for women and families under one roof.
