In a unique celebration of World Environment Day, Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh, in association with Riseonic, Vamana Group, and Dhir Constructions, hosted a three-day passenger engagement initiative from June 4–6, bringing together industry leaders and sustainability advocates to promote environmental consciousness among travelers.
The initiative was executed by Times OOH, a Times Group company, and Spell Communications, with support from Godrej Secure and Upload Communication serving as the Digital Marketing Partner.
As part of the campaign, thousands of arriving passengers received complimentary plant saplings at a specially designed promotional kiosk within the airport premises. The initiative aimed to encourage travelers to take home a living symbol of environmental responsibility while creating meaningful engagement at one of North India’s key aviation gateways.
Ajay Verma, CEO, Chandigarh Airport, said, “World Environment Day provides an opportunity to engage travelers in a meaningful way while reinforcing the importance of sustainable living. Through this initiative, we aim to create a positive impact that extends beyond the airport and into the communities our passengers call home.”
The three-day activity commenced on June 4 with an inaugural ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by CHIAL officials and senior leadership from the Vamana Group. The launch marked the beginning of a sustainability-led experience designed to create awareness about environmental conservation among a diverse and influential traveler base.
Amit Gulati, Co-Founder, Riseonic, added, “We are delighted to be part of an initiative that encourages environmental consciousness among thousands of travelers. Each sapling distributed represents a small but meaningful step towards building a greener future.”
The activation witnessed significant passenger participation over the three-day period, further strengthening Chandigarh Airport’s position as a preferred destination for innovative experiential marketing, consumer engagement, and purpose-driven brand activations.
As one of North India’s fastest-growing aviation hubs, Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport serves as a critical gateway to the Chandigarh Tricity region and the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and parts of Uttarakhand. The airport handles over four million passengers annually and ranks among India’s busiest airports, offering seamless connectivity to major domestic business and leisure destinations, as well as key international routes.
The airport attracts a premium audience comprising business travelers, government officials, entrepreneurs, corporate professionals, students, tourists, NRIs, and high-net-worth individuals, making it an ideal platform for brands seeking impactful engagement opportunities.
Pushkar Gokhale, Security Solutions Division, Godrej Enterprises, said, “At Godrej Secure, sustainability has always been at the core of our values. We are delighted to support this initiative, which encourages individuals to take a simple yet powerful step towards environmental stewardship. Every sapling distributed represents the beginning of a greener tomorrow.”
The World Environment Day activation further demonstrates how airports have evolved beyond transportation hubs into experiential spaces where brands can create meaningful interactions with consumers. By combining sustainability with passenger engagement, the initiative showcases the potential of airport environments to deliver memorable brand experiences while contributing to larger social causes.
Rohit Chopra, COO, Times OOH, said, “Airports today are more than transit hubs; they are vibrant engagement destinations where brands can create memorable experiences. Through this World Environment Day initiative at Chandigarh Airport, we are bringing together sustainability, passenger interaction, and purpose-driven communication to create a meaningful impact that extends beyond the airport premises.”
