Back-to-school 2026: Skoodle’s recycled paper pencils help save 11,472+ trees as students make greener choices

National, India, 1st July 2026: As students across the country prepare for a new academic year, Skoodle, the flagship stationery brand of Stone Sapphire India Pvt. Ltd. (SSIPL), is encouraging parents and schools to make sustainability a part of every school bag. Through its recycled paper pencil initiative, the brand has helped save over 11,472 trees and preserve approximately 51 acres of land between 2018 and 2025.

The back-to-school season remains one of the largest stationery purchasing periods in India, with millions of students stocking up on notebooks, pencils, and other classroom essentials. Skoodle’s recycled paper pencils offer an environmentally responsible alternative to conventional wooden pencils, allowing students to adopt sustainable habits from the very beginning of the academic year.

Made entirely from recycled newspapers, Skoodle paper pencils reduce dependence on wood while promoting circular economy practices in everyday stationery consumption. According to the company’s internal sales data and impact assessment, the brand has sold over 103.25 million paper pencils between 2018 and 2025.

Based on industry benchmarks estimating that approximately 9,000 wooden pencils are produced from a single mature poplar tree, these sales have contributed to the preservation of more than 11,472 trees. The initiative has also helped protect an estimated 1,606 tonnes of carbon absorption capacity and saved nearly 9.3 crore litres of water compared to conventional wooden pencil manufacturing processes.

Speaking on the initiative, Shobhit Singh, Managing Director & CEO, Stone Sapphire India Pvt. Ltd., said, “The back-to-school season presents an important opportunity to build sustainable habits among young learners. Every paper pencil represents a small but meaningful choice that contributes to environmental conservation. By introducing eco-friendly stationery into classrooms, we can encourage students to become more conscious consumers while ensuring that sustainability becomes a part of everyday learning.”

India consumes billions of pencils annually, creating significant demand for pencil-grade timber. As awareness around environmental responsibility continues to grow among parents, educators, and schools, sustainable stationery is emerging as an important consideration during back-to-school purchases.

Skoodle expects its impact to grow further in 2026, with projected sales of 36 million paper pencils that could help save an additional 4,000 trees. This would take the cumulative environmental benefit of the initiative to more than 15,472 trees saved and nearly 69 acres of land preserved since the programme’s inception.

With the new academic session underway, Skoodle is encouraging parents, schools, and educational institutions to include sustainable stationery choices in students’ back-to-school kits, helping create environmentally conscious classrooms while reducing pressure on natural resources.
