Global Commodity Conclave 2026 to Shape the Future of commodity Markets

Three-day flagship event in Mumbai will unite policymakers, global exchanges, and industry leaders around the theme of convergence between physical and financial markets

MUMBAI, India – August 1 st, 2026: India is taking a defining step in its ambition to shape global  commodity markets. The Commodity Markets Industry, with the support of MCX, will host the Global  Commodity Conclave 2026 on August 12–14, 2026, at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai – a first-of-its-kind platform designed to accelerate India’s evolution as a price setter.

Anchored around the theme Convergence of Physical and Financial Markets, the three-day conclave  will convene policymakers, global exchanges, market infrastructure leaders, institutional investors, corporates, SMEs, financial institutions and retail traders under one roof – making it the most  comprehensive gathering the Indian commodity markets space has seen.

As commodity markets continue to evolve, effective risk management and diversified investment  strategies are becoming increasingly important for businesses and investors alike. The conclave will  spotlight the growing role of commodity derivatives in enhancing market resilience and unlocking  new growth opportunities.

TO BE A PRICE SETTER

India’s commodity markets are at an inflection point. Bolstered by progressive regulatory reforms  and a rapidly expanding domestic physical market, the country is steadily asserting itself as a defining  force in the global commodity ecosystem.

The conclave’s central strategic imperative – Price in India, Hedge in India – will drive discussions  on how robust domestic derivative markets can secure supply chains across agriculture, metals, and  energy. For manufacturing MSMEs in India’s industrial heartlands, the event offers practical,  actionable tracks on secondary aluminium, copper scrap, and zinc market realities.

Commodities and Their Derivatives as an Investment

Commodities are increasingly gaining prominence as an important asset class within diversified  investment portfolios. As investors seek protection against inflation, market volatility and  macroeconomic uncertainties, commodity derivatives offer an efficient avenue for gaining exposure  to underlying commodity markets. Advances in market infrastructure, technology and regulatory  oversight have made these markets more transparent, accessible and efficient for a wider set of  participants. Growing institutional participation, coupled with increasing retail awareness, is further  deepening the commodity investment ecosystem. As global financial markets continue to evolve,  commodities are poised to play an increasingly significant role in long-term portfolio diversification  and wealth creation.

“India’s commodity markets are witnessing a powerful convergence of expanding retail  participation and a deeper institutional conviction. This momentum is reshaping the  markets into more inclusive engines of wealth creation

— Ajay Garg, Alternate President, Commodity & Capital Market Participants Association  of India (CPAI)

MARKETS, MARGINS, AND MOMENTUM

India’s commodity derivatives industry is entering a new phase of structural maturity, driven by two  complementary forces. A formidable retail participation base has already been built. Now,  institutional participation – through Mutual Funds, Wealth Management, and Alternative  Investment Funds (AIFs) leveraging higher client exposure limits – is emerging as the next major  frontier. Together, this dual momentum positions India’s commodity markets to close the gap with  global benchmarks on liquidity, price discovery, and market depth – reinforcing the country’s  ambition to be recognised not just as a fast-growing market, but as a globally credible one.

“India is evolving from a major gold consumer market into an investment market. Now  MCX is positioned to serve as the premier gateway for bullion financialisation.”

— Surendra Mehta, National Secretary, India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA)

Hedging for Commodity Price Risk Management

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, commodity prices are becoming more  susceptible to geopolitical developments, supply chain disruptions, climate events and shifting  demand patterns. This heightened volatility has made effective price risk management a strategic  priority for producers, manufacturers, exporters, importers and consumers alike. Commodity  derivatives have emerged as an essential tool to hedge against adverse price movements,  enabling businesses to protect margins, improve planning and ensure operational stability. As  global trade expands and markets become more integrated, the adoption of structured hedging  practices is expected to grow across sectors. Strengthening awareness and accessibility of these  risk management tools will play a vital role in building resilient businesses and more efficient  commodity markets.

“Price volatility is a given constant. MSMEs have to adopt and evolve to address price risk.  Price benchmarking and hedging are a must have tools not only to sustain growth but also  to be profitable. Global Commodity Conclave brings perfect combination of panels and  speakers who would offer guidance on the same.”

— Sushil Kothari, President, Bharat Metal Exchange (BME)

India’s rapidly evolving power sector is creating a strong case for market-based risk management  solutions. With increasing renewable energy integration and demand volatility, electricity derivatives  can play a pivotal role in efficient price discovery and risk mitigation. IPPAI believes a robust  derivatives market will strengthen the power ecosystem, improve market efficiency and support  India’s long-term energy transition.

“The Global Commodities Conclave will be a premier platform to exchange insights, foster  collaboration and shape the future of the commodity ecosystem. MCX deserves real credit for

its pioneering role in building this market – through sustained capacity building, deep  stakeholder engagement, and growing awareness across the energy sector, including power  value chain. The rising liquidity and open interest in its contracts are laying the groundwork  for a deeper, more transparent, and truly efficient electricity market ecosystem in India. We  look forward to continuing this journey with MCX – driving capacity building and creating  awareness among our members and stakeholders across the power sector.”

– Karan Dhaul, Director, Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI)

The final day of the conclave features a dedicated Retail Participants segment – exploring the next  wave of wealth generation through retail algorithmic trading, options strategies, and trend-following  in commodities.

INDUSTRY LEADERS SPEAK

India is no longer just a passive taker of global commodity prices. Through structural regulatory  reforms (under SEBI), massive retail adoption, and relentless product innovation, India is actively  cementing its position as a world capital for commodity derivatives trading.

“The flagship event, Global Commodity Conclave 2026, will serve as a platform to create  greater awareness about the vital role of commodity markets in the economy. Our focus is to  encourage wider adoption of commodities for hedging price risk and to promote commodity  as a prudent investment avenue, thereby strengthening India’s commodity market  ecosystem. The conclave will also provide a unique opportunity for stakeholders from  different sectors of the economy to come together and discuss the future of commodity and  financial markets on such a large scale for the first time. Such collaborative efforts will  contribute to building a stronger economy and support the vision of a Viksit Bharat.”

— Praveena Rai, MD & CEO, Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX)

The Global Commodity Conclave 2026 will serve as the premier leadership platform for institutional  collaboration and market development – offering policymakers, industry participants, and investors  the strategic insights needed to navigate a rapidly shifting global marketplace.
