A Legacy of Crime. A New Generation of Investigators. One Mystery at a Time – SURAAG 2.0 releasing on September 21, 2026 exclusively on DD News and Waves OTT

Suraag 2.0 will be released exclusively on DD News and Waves OTT on 21st September. The episodes will air Monday to Friday at 10 PM IST

Mumbai, India, September 16, 2026: Some stories leave behind more than memories, they leave behind a legacy. Bringing one of Indian television’s most remembered crime thrillers back for a new generation, Waves OTT, in association with Sri Adhikari Brothers and Prasar Bharati, has unveiled the trailer of its much-awaited series Suraag 2.0.

The trailer offers a glimpse into a world where every mystery leaves behind a clue, every clue leads to another question, and every investigation could uncover something far more dangerous than expected. A contemporary revival of the iconic Suraag – The Clue, the series stars Sai Ketan Rao, Jigyasa Singh, Sudesh Berry and Gauri Karnik with Ravi Adhikari serving as the creator and director along with writers Rehan Khan and Sarim Momin.

At the centre of Suraag 2.0 is Sai Ketan Rao as Inspector Shaurya Shastri, a young investigator stepping into a world of complex cases, hidden motives and dangerous secrets. Alongside him is Jigyasa Singh, who plays a key role in the new chapter, while Sudesh Berry returns as Inspector Bharat, bringing the show’s original legacy into its new-age narrative. The series has been described by its creators as an attempt to retain what made Suraag special while giving it a contemporary storytelling language and treatment.

Speaking about the return of the franchise, Ravi Adhikari, Creator and Director of Suraag 2.0, said, “Suraag 2.0 is not simply about bringing back a familiar title, it is about understanding what made the original special and finding a way to tell that story for today’s audience. We wanted to retain the investigative spirit and emotional connect of Suraag, while giving the series a more contemporary storytelling language. With Shaurya at the centre and the legacy of Inspector Bharat still present, we believe the show creates an interesting bridge between nostalgia and a new generation of viewers. With Suraag 2.0, we are trying to get the family viewing back.”

Sudesh Berry, who reprises his iconic role as Inspector Bharat, said, “Inspector Bharat has stayed with me for many years, and returning to a character that audiences have loved is an incredibly special feeling. But Suraag 2.0 is not about recreating the past. It is about taking the spirit of what we created then and allowing it to live in a new world. Seeing a new generation of actors and a new investigative journey come together has made this return particularly meaningful for me.”

Sai Ketan Rao, who plays Inspector Shaurya Shastri, said, “Playing Shaurya has been a very different journey for me. There is an intensity and maturity to the character that pushed me to explore a completely new side of myself as an actor. At the same time, stepping into a franchise with the legacy

of Suraag comes with a sense of responsibility. We have tried to honour that legacy while making Shaurya his own person. I am really looking forward to audiences discovering his journey and the mysteries he finds himself drawn into.”

Jigyasa Singh, who plays a pivotal role in the series, said, “Suraag has a very special place in the memories of Indian television audiences, so being part of its new chapter is both exciting and challenging. What drew me to Suraag 2.0 was that it doesn’t simply depend on nostalgia, it brings a fresh world, new characters and a contemporary approach to the genre. I hope audiences connect with this new chapter while also enjoying the familiarity that makes Suraag so special.”

Originally aired on DD National between 1999 and 2002, Suraag became a landmark crime series, with Sudesh Berry’s portrayal of Inspector Bharat becoming an enduring part of Indian television nostalgia. Known for its gripping investigations and case-driven storytelling, the series is now returning with a contemporary treatment that retains the spirit of the original while introducing a new generation of characters and mysteries.

With a darker and more contemporary visual and narrative treatment, Suraag 2.0 aims to bridge two generations of crime-thriller audiences: those who grew up with Inspector Bharat and a new generation discovering Shaurya and his world for the first time.
