AniMela to Screen Two Oscar®-Nominated Animated Films at its 2026 Edition in Mumbai

Mumbai, India|| 27.01.2026: AniMela is delighted to announce that its 2026 edition will feature screenings of four Oscar®-nominated animated films, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience some of the most celebrated works of global animation on the big screen.

This year’s Oscar®-nominated selections include:
Arco
Little Amélie or the Character of Rain

Oscar®-nominated animated short films in the Best Animated Short Film category:

  • Forever Green
  • The Girl Who Cried Pearls

The National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) in Mumbai will present these prestigious films, which have become popular during awards season, to attract animation fans and industry professionals who want to experience modern global animation through its artistic and narrative achievements.

Anne Doshi, who serves as the Artistic Director and Co-founder of AniMela, described the event by saying, “At AniMela, we celebrate not just skill and polish, but curiosity, risk, chaos, courage, and the need to create simply because you must. The creative energy we seek to protect must be amplified in line with our vision for protection.

The international festival AniMela, dedicated to animation and visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR), will take place at NFDC in Mumbai from February 19 to February 22, 2026. The festival continues to serve as a key platform for showcasing cutting-edge creative work while fostering dialogue between Indian and global creative communities.

Highlighting the festival’s larger vision, Archana Trasy, Co-founder and Event Director, said,  “AniMela connects animation with gaming, filmmaking with technology, studios with students and ideas with opportunities. It’s not just a showcase. It is where bridges are built and the future of Indian AVGC-XR starts to take shape.”

The 2026 edition is being shaped by an international advisory board and contributors drawn from the Indian and global animation, gaming, and immersive media ecosystems. The advisory leadership includes Mickaël Marin of Annecy Festival and MIFA, Munjal Shroff of Graphiti Studio, Arjun Madhavan of Assemblage, executive producer Ashima Avasthi Chaudhuri, Aneta Ozorek of Kaboom Film Festival, and filmmaker Kiran Rao.

With its Oscar®-nominated screenings and strong international advisory leadership, AniMela 2026 promises to be a landmark edition celebrating the very best of global animation and immersive storytelling.
