Balaji Digital’s focused foray into the streaming space is beginning to pay off, with two of its three original series making it to the Ormax Media Top 50 Streaming Originals in India Mid-Year Report (January to June 2025).
Kull: The Legacy of the Raisingghs ranked at #17 with 10.4 million viewers, while Power of Paanch stood at #23 with 9.4 million viewers, both streaming on JioHotstar. These milestones reflect the studio’s sharp creative instincts and growing connection with digital-first audiences.
Balaji Digital’s journey began in 2024 with Dus June Ki Raat, a comedy thriller that set the tone for the brand’s emotionally resonant storytelling. In early 2025 came Power of Paanch, a bold, long-format youth series praised for its spunky and character-driven portrayal of campus life. This was followed by Kull: The Legacy of the Raisingghs in May, a dynastic drama layered with betrayal, ambition, and political undertones.
“At Balaji, storytelling has always been our lifeblood, and digital is just another canvas, albeit a thrilling one,” said Aparna Ramachandran, Head of Digital Originals, Balaji Telefilms. “It’s incredibly encouraging to see both Kull and Power of Paanch in the Ormax Top 50. Each of these shows was built with a deep belief in the audience’s appetite for emotionally intelligent, narratively bold content. This kind of validation tells us we’re on the right path.”
While Dus June Ki Raat explored friendship, intrigue, and familial bonds through a comedic lens, Power of Paanch channeled the fire and realities of being a young adult today, in a fantasy setting. Kull marked a creative pivot with its grand visual language and brooding power struggles within a royal Indian family.
Reflecting on the digital landscape, Ramachandran noted, “There’s no captive audience anymore. Today’s viewer curates content based on mood, taste, and emotional relevance. We are happy to have struck a chord with specific segments and look forward to building more powerful stories from here.”
Looking ahead, Balaji Digital, under Ekta Kapoor’s leadership, is expanding its OTT slate with genre-defying originals and deeper platform collaborations.
“The pressure on creators today is real, but it’s also an opportunity,” added Ramachandran. “We’re building a space where fresh voices, morally complex characters, and unconventional genres can thrive. The aim is simple: break moulds and stir conversation.”
