Rahul Dravid Urges Customers to adopt ‘Pack Review System

Directs them to check the right quantity (910 gm) of edible oil in the 1 Litre pouch to ensure 'oil is less in food and not in the pack'

Bengaluru: 11th December, 2025: Freedom Sunflower Oil, one of India’s leading edible oil brands, launches an extensive social awareness campaign with Rahul Dravid to empower customers to check if each 1 Litre pouch they purchase contains 910 gm of edible oil as specified by The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Govt. of India. The objective of the drive is to highlight the ambiguous practices by some manufacturers to provide pouches that look like a 1 litre pouch however contain less quantity of edible oil.

To explain this phenomenon, GEF India – the makers of Freedom Sunflower oil joined Mr. Dependable of Indian Cricket – Rahul Dravid to compare the weight of edible oil in several pouches of edible oils, available in the market, in a pack that looks like 1 Litre pouch of sunflower oil. Each pack was placed on a weighing scale to check the weight of oil in each pack. The evaluation revealed that some packs contained less than the expected quantity (910 gm) of oil whereas Freedom Sunflower oil pouch met or exceeded the required criteria every time. This highlighted the ambiguous practices being followed in the market and laid the emphasis on adopting the ‘Pack Review System (PRS)’ (i.e. Check the weight of oil) every time the customer picks a pouch of edible oil.

The initiative also emphasised that simple habits can make a long-term difference. Reading labels carefully, comparing the net quantity with the price, and pausing to verify the product can help families avoid being misled. These actions encourage honesty across the market and command a higher standard for transparency.

According to Rahul Dravid, “. I congratulate GEF India for taking this important initiative to educate and empower consumers by introducing the concept of ‘Pack Review System’ (PRS) and making customers the third umpire to prevent them from being misled. As aptly put ‘Oil should be less in the food and not in the pack’. Only an aware consumer can get it by adopting PRS.”

Speaking on the occasion Mr. P Chandra Shekhara Reddy, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Gemini Edibles & Fats India Ltd, said “Our aim is to give every family confidence that they are receiving exactly what they pay for. Consumers can confidently trust Freedom for the value they expect. By taking a moment to read the label, checking the quantity, and comparing it with the price, households can make informed decisions and protect their purchases. Simple habits like these encourage honesty in the market and strengthen trust between consumers and brands.”

Mr. Chetan Pimpalkhute, Marketing Head, Freedom Healthy Cooking Oils. added: “We have always believed that an informed consumer is a protected consumer. We are delighted to introduce the concept of Pack Review System and reach the users through comprehensive digital media, on- ground activities and traditional media advertisements. As a responsible corporate citizen, our objective is to ensure that every household in India adopts the habit to check the quantity of oil in every pack and not get deceived.”
