National, 04th February 2026: Yashoda Medicity, one of the leading hospitals in Delhi NCR, has launched a public awareness campaign titled #AMatchThatSavesLives, aimed at educating the community about stem cell donation and the critical role of buccal swab testing in saving lives. Conducted in collaboration with DATRI Stem Cell Donation Registry and Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd., the campaign witnessed strong participation from nearby residential societies, reflecting growing public awareness while also highlighting the pressing need to further expand India’s stem cell donor registry.
The event was graced by Shri Abhinav Gopal, IAS, Hon’ble Chief Development Officer, Ghaziabad, as the Chief Guest.
The urgency of this initiative becomes evident when viewed against the clinical realities faced by patients today. For many individuals battling rare and life-threatening conditions such as leukemia, lymphoma, thalassemia, and other severe blood disorders, a bone marrow transplant remains the only curative treatment. However, more than 70 percent of patients are unable to find a compatible donor within their families. With the probability of identifying a matched unrelated donor as low as 1 in 10,000, due to the need for closely aligned Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) markers, the gap between patients and potential donors remains alarmingly wide.
Aligned with this need, the campaign focused on educating the public about how the journey toward saving a life can begin with a simple buccal swab test, a safe, quick, and non-invasive procedure. The initiative also aimed to address common misconceptions surrounding stem cell donation and encourage informed participation.
As part of the campaign, awareness booths were set up at Yashoda Medicity, Indirapuram, and Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, Kaushambi. Visitors not only registered as stem cell donors and submitted buccal swab samples, but also engaged directly with medical teams to understand how a single informed decision could one day save a life.
Complementing the on-ground efforts, the campaign was complemented by a series of health talks and panel discussions featuring Ms. Shobha Tuli, Secretary, Thalassemics India and Secretary, Thalassaemia International Federation, Ms. Bindiya Sawheny, North India Head, DATRI, and other leading voices from healthcare and public health advocacy who shared critical insights into strengthening India’s stem cell donor ecosystem, emphasising the role of timely donor matches in improving patient outcomes and the importance of sustained awareness.
Adding a personal touch, patient stories shared under the campaign #BMTKiKahaniSurvivorKiZubani highlighted the real-world impact of stem cell donation and underscored the life-changing outcomes made possible through donor participation.
Dr. P. N. Arora, Chairman and Managing Director, Yashoda Group of Hospitals, added, “Creating awareness about stem cell donation is a responsibility we all share. This Campaign underscores our commitment to advancing medical excellence while actively contributing to public health.”
Dr. Upasana Arora, Managing Director, Yashoda Group of Hospitals, said, “‘A Match That Saves Lives’ is our effort to raise awareness about the life-saving potential of stem cell donation. At Yashoda Medicity, our advanced Bone Marrow Transplant facility supports patients at every stage of treatment, while this initiative helps build a strong donor network that brings timely hope to those in need.”
Dr. Nivedita Dhingra, Director & Head – Hematology, Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, said, “Every registered donor brings patients one step closer to finding a compatible match, which can be critical for treatment success. Campaigns like ‘A Match That Saves Lives’ make stem cell donation accessible, educate the community about the process, and turn awareness into actionable steps that can directly save lives.”
#AMatchThatSavesLives reflects Yashoda Medicity’s ongoing commitment to public health engagement and its vision of delivering patient-centred care that extends beyond hospital walls.
