India, 5 November 2026 : Karma Foundation, a Pune-based charitable trust providing veterinary care for animals in need, has launched its Diwali campaign, ‘Iss Diwali, Ek Kahani Unke Naam’, encouraging people to extend the spirit of compassion and togetherness to community dogs. Built around the message ‘Iss Diwali, Har Khushi Mein Unki Bhi Jagah Banayein’, the campaign draws attention to the animals who share our neighbourhoods and become part of our daily routines, yet are often overlooked during festive celebrations.
The campaign film tells the story of Sheru, a community dog who has become a familiar presence in a residential society. As a family prepares the society entrance for Diwali, decorating it with flowers, diyas and lights, the mother asks her son Aarav to move Sheru’s food and water bowls aside before the guests arrive. What begins as a routine part of the preparations soon turns into a conversation about belonging and acceptance.
Aarav and his younger sister Meera question why Sheru, who spends his days around the society and greets them whenever they return from school, should suddenly be moved out of sight during the celebrations. Their questions prompt the parents to reconsider how they treat an animal who has quietly become part of their everyday lives.
The film’s emotional turning point comes when Meera says, “Yeh humare saath rehta hai. Bas humare ghar mein nahi.” Through this simple exchange, the campaign conveys that community dogs do not need to live inside people’s homes to deserve kindness, care and a sense of belonging.
Speaking about the campaign, Priya Kailad, Founder, Karma Foundation, said, “Community dogs are part of our everyday lives, even if we don’t always acknowledge it. They are familiar faces in our neighbourhoods, waiting at the gates, following familiar routines and quietly becoming a part of our lives. Yet, when festivals come around, they are often the ones we forget to consider. Through this campaign, we want people to look at them a little differently. Diwali is about sharing happiness, and that spirit should extend to every living being around us. A little kindness, a safe space and simply allowing them to belong can make a difference. We hope this film encourages people to be more considerate towards the community dogs who share their neighbourhoods with them.”
Rather than focusing on elaborate gestures, the film highlights how compassion can begin with small changes in everyday behaviour. As the story progresses, the family chooses to make Sheru comfortable in his familiar surroundings instead of moving him away for the sake of appearances. The moment reinforces the idea that celebrating togetherness should not mean excluding the animals who have always been part of the neighbourhood.
The film concludes with the message, ‘Iss Diwali, Har Khushi Mein Unki Bhi Jagah Banayein’, encouraging people to make compassion towards community animals a part of their Diwali celebrations.
