Angamaly: Apollo Adlux Hospital, Angamaly, has marked a major milestone in advanced cardiovascular care by successfully performing four highly complex aortic surgeries within the last two months. Four critically ill patients, each facing life-threatening conditions, were revived through cutting-edge treatment techniques. The procedures were led by Dr. Rinett Sebastian, Senior Consultant in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, supported by Dr. Harsha Jeevan (Head of Cardiology) and Dr. Suchit Cheruvalli (Head of Cardiac Anesthesia).
The team employed the most advanced interventions available today: Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) and Fenestrated EVAR. Two patients were diagnosed with dangerously enlarged aortic aneurysm. The aorta, normally about 2.5 cm in diameter, had ballooned to 7.5 cm and 9.5 cm. In one case, the aorta ruptured, causing the patient to lose nearly half of their blood, yet emergency EVAR successfully saved their life.
Another patient, who sustained severe chest trauma resulting in rib fractures and an aortic tear, was treated using an endovascular approach instead of traditional open-chest surgery, enabling faster and safer recovery.
The fourth case involved an abdominal aortic aneurysm compromising kidney function. Because standard procedures risked damaging the kidney, the team opted for Fenestrated EVAR, creating a new channel that preserved vital blood flow to the organ.
All four patients have now made full recoveries and have been discharged. “These successes represent a significant achievement for Kerala’s healthcare sector and highlight the hospital’s expertise in handling some of the most complex cardiovascular emergencies,” said Apollo Adlux Hospital CEO Dr. Abel George.
