Australia Shines Under the Instagram Spotlight This Holiday Season

Tourism Australia, in partnership with State and Territory Tourism Organisations, hosted actors, artists and content creators from the Indian TV and film industry to promote Australia as a holiday destination to their vast social media audiences back home.

Twelve Indian advocates were hosted as part of a push to promote Australia into the growing key tourism market. As part of their visit the celebrities attended the T20 international cricket match between Australia and India played at People First Stadium on the Gold Coast on Thursday, 6 November.

Tourism Australia Country Manager India Nishant Kashikar said the celebrities shared their experiences in Australia on their social media channels which have a combined audience of more than 72 million.

Demand for an Australian holiday has been growing in India over the past few years and we want to keep that momentum by continuing to showcase what we have to offer as a holiday destination,” Mr Kashikar said.

Tourism Australia successfully capitalised during the last Summer of Cricket when India’s Test team toured through a range of activity promoting Australia and we continued that approach with the Indian T20 team’s tour of the country.”

The advocates watched India take on Australia on the Gold Coast before experiencing some of the best Australia has to offer and showcased their journey with their vast audiences back home.”

Among those who visited Australia were actress Kajal Aggarwal; entrepreneur Ranveer Allahbadia; music producer Yashraj Mukhate; actress Palak Tiwari; and artist Mithila Palkar. While in Australia they visited Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Cairns. It followed a similar successful push into India during the last Summer of Cricket in 2024/25 when India toured Australia.

In the 12 months to June 2025 Australia welcomed more than 450,000 travellers from India who contributed almost $3 billion ($2.8b) to our visitor economy. This makes India our fifth largest market in terms of both arrivals and expenditure and according to Tourism Research Australia’s latest forecasts arrivals from India are expected to reach almost 620,000 by 2029.
