Mumbai, November 7, 2026: bigbasket, a TATA Enterprise, is witnessing strong consumer demand for precious metals ahead of Dhanteras, with sales recording triple-digit growth over last year’s Dhanteras at the first auspicious muhurat itself. The strong momentum highlights the growing preference among consumers to purchase gold and silver online, combining the convenience of quick commerce with the tradition of buying precious metals during Dhanteras.
Gold sales on bigbasket have nearly doubled compared to last year, with the 24 carat 1 gm denomination continuing to be the most preferred choice. The introduction of smaller 0.2 gm gold coins has also helped make the category more accessible, enabling more consumers to participate in the Dhanteras tradition. Every ninth order for precious metals on bigbasket is coming from a new consumer, indicating continued expansion of the category.
Silver coins in 2 gm and 5 gm denominations are also seeing strong demand, even as silver prices have increased nearly twofold compared to last year. Demand has remained strong across markets, reflecting the growing acceptance of online channels for festive purchases of gold and silver.
As part of its festive celebrations, bigbasket’s Broom Vroom campaign is also seeing strong consumer participation, with close to 100,000 brooms sold so far. Under the campaign, customers stand a chance to win a bike every hour, with five customers having already won bikes.
The precious metal assortment on bigbasket includes Tanishq gold coins in 0.2 gm, 0.5 gm, 1 gm and 2 gm denominations, along with silver coins in 2 gm, 5 gm and 10 gm denominations. The 2 gm gold coin is available in select cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Kolkata. Gold and silver coins are available on bigbasket without additional discounts or bank offers.
Vishal Das, Chief Buying and Merchandising Officer, bigbasket, said: “Dhanteras continues to be a significant part of the festive calendar for Indian consumers, and we are seeing strong demand for gold and silver on bigbasket. The triple-digit growth witnessed right from the first Dhanteras muhurat reflects the strong consumer response to the convenience of buying precious metals online. The introduction of smaller denominations such as 0.2 gm gold coins has further enabled more consumers to participate in this tradition, while the strong response across the category demonstrates the growing role of digital platforms in festive shopping.”
