Borluit Productions postpones Dipholu release amid continuing impact of Assam floods

Guwahati, August 20, 2026: Borluit Productions has decided to postpone the theatrical release of its debut Assamese feature film Dipholu, which was scheduled to release on August 21, 2026.

While the floodwaters have begun to recede in several parts of Assam, the impact of the devastation continues to be felt across the state. In several remote and severely affected areas, families are still struggling to return to their regular lives, with many having lost homes, agricultural land, livestock, property and livelihoods, and now facing the difficult task of rebuilding from scratch.

In view of the circumstances, the team felt that this was not the right time to bring Dipholu to theatres. The film will now release at a later date, which will be announced by the makers in due course.

For director Nekib, whose debut feature film this is, the decision was particularly difficult. Having personally visited several flood-affected villages in early August and witnessed the situation on the ground, he felt that the aftermath of the floods could not be overlooked even as the immediate situation begins to ease.

“Honestly, this was a very difficult decision for all of us. Dipholu is my first film, and we have been waiting for this day for a very long time. We were looking forward to sharing the film with our audiences tomorrow. But when we look at what so many people across Assam are going through, especially those in the remote villages who have lost so much and are still trying to rebuild their lives, it did not feel right to celebrate a film release at this moment. I had the opportunity to visit some of the affected villages earlier this month and see the situation closely. The waters may be receding, but for many people, the real struggle has only begun. The film can wait. Right now, our thoughts are with the people of Assam and everyone affected by the floods,” said Nekib.

The entire team of Dipholu stands with the people affected by the floods and hopes for strength and a steady recovery for the communities that continue to face the aftermath of the devastation.
