India, 29th July, 2025: Converse is bringing the past back to life with a fresh take on its rich running history. With the release of the bold, new Omni Trainer and Omega Trainer, the brand is reconnecting with a heritage that’s long defined by movement, momentum and meaning. The two silhouettes take cues from Converse’s archival running shoe designs of the 80s, inviting you to experience the brand’s running legacy through a lifestyle lens. They effortlessly blend vintage character with forward-thinking functionality, making them perfect for today’s dynamic lifestyle.
Few know that Converse’s running story began nearly a century ago when it debuted its first performance shoe, the Converse Racer, in the 1930s. What followed was a lineage of silhouettes built not just for sport, but for spirit. Ever since, the brand has continued to innovate in the category, and is now revisiting these breakthrough silhouettes to serve as the basis for new creations. The Omni Trainer and Omega Trainer are not just sneakers for the everyday. They are a fusion of nostalgia with the now, a piece of Converse history reimagined for the present.
The Industry’s Most Storied and Experimental Archive
Converse’s archive, consisting of over 10,000 items, is a treasure trove of innovation, where daring experiments, bold risks, and creative breakthroughs have shaped the course of sneaker history. Dating back to 1908, the archive is a living, breathing repository of Converse’s vast catalogue of styles, each one a testament to the brand’s pioneering spirit. From its earliest canvas sneakers to its most avant-garde collaborations, the archive is a window into the brand’s past and present that also informs its future. For the designers, artists, musicians, and athletes who have had the privilege of delving into its depths, the archive is an awe-inspiring resource that sparks creativity and fuels imagination.
From its founding, Converse has pushed boundaries and challenged the status quo by not only recreating iconic designs from the archive stitch-for-stitch but also experimenting with the DNA from disparate models to create something entirely new and unique.
The Omni Trainer and Omega Trainer are the latest examples of the brand’s past informing its future.
The Omni Trainer draws heavily from the Converse Equinox, which debuted in 1984. It features a durable sport nylon ripstop and textured suede overlays for contrast and structure. This is completed with a CX foam cushioning in both the midsole and sock liners for all-day comfort. Meanwhile, the Omega Trainer takes inspiration from the Thunderbolt and the Converse Gazelle, which hit shelves in 1984 and 1985, respectively. The shoe features a woven poly sport upper with suede that’s paired with a lightweight EVA midsole for comfort without the bulk.
Both sneakers have been reworked for those who want to move freely and express themselves confidently. Think understated, versatile and loaded with attitude. With their neutral tones, they are perfect for adding a subtle statement to your daily fits.
The retro running collection stands as a testament to Converse’s ability to evolve the classics from its archives into lifestyle icons for a new generation. This archival storytelling kicked off with the Run Star Trainer in 2024 and will continue through the launch of this 1980’s collection, which further explores how history, when worn with confidence, never goes out of style.
The Converse Omni Trainer and the Omega Trainer are available in multiple colourways on www.converse.in and select premium retailers.
