Guwahati, October 7, 2026: Bringing together prominent personalities from Assam’s film and cultural fraternity, Borluit Productions hosted the premiere of the Assamese feature film ‘Dipholu’ at Matrix Cinemas, Beltola, Guwahati, on Tuesday evening. Directed by Nekib and produced by Jekiv, the film is set to release in theatres across Assam on October 9.
The grand premiere brought together several well-known faces from the Assamese entertainment industry, along with the cast and crew, media personalities, film critics and other distinguished guests. The celebration was made even more special with the presence of several dignified guests, contributing to the festive spirit of the film’s eagerly awaited theatrical release.
For the Dipholu team, the premiere marked the culmination of a long and arduous journey. Director Nekib said the moment was a mix of relief, excitement and emotion to finally be able to share the film with audiences after being rescheduled twice. “After such a long wait, we are finally here, just days away from seeing Dipholu reach theatres on October 9. This has been a very personal journey for all of us. At its heart, Dipholu celebrates the beauty of simplicity — our people, relationships and everyday lives. I believe every Assamese person will find a little bit of themselves in this story. No matter how far we go, we remain connected to our roots, and I hope this film takes audiences back to the people and experiences that shaped us. I sincerely hope they experience Dipholu in theatres and take this journey with us,” said Nekib.
Rooted in Assamese village life, Dipholu explores human relationships, aspirations and the cultural landscape of Assam, blending humour, emotion and social themes while finding beauty in the ordinary.
For Subrat Deori, the premiere carries added significance as the film marks his feature-film debut. “There is definitely a lot of excitement, but I would be lying if I said I am not nervous. This is my first film, so Dipholu will always be very close to my heart. Working with such a wonderful team and so many veteran artistes has been a huge learning experience for me. Now I am simply eager for audiences to watch the film and experience it for themselves. I hope they give Dipholu a chance and come to the theatres to share this journey with us,” he said.
Dipholu marks Borluit Productions’ first feature film, following its acclaimed short films Rong and Akaax Bisari, which have received recognition at international film festivals. The film features Amrita Gogoi, Subrat Deori, Arun Nath, Arun Hazarika, Purnada Hazarika, Rajib Dowari, Jyotishman Bora, Kanika Nath, Anirban Kalita, Ankur Baidya, Dr. Hitesh Baruah, Simashree Borah, Priyanshi Kashyap and Dibyapratim Bhagawati, with Mridula Baruah in a guest appearance.
Music is an integral part of Dipholu, with Jekiv handling the Music Direction and Polash Gogoi working on the background score. The film’s soundtrack features the voices of artistes who hold a special place in Assam’s musical landscape.
Speaking about the music, Jekiv said, “Zubeen da and Gayatri ba blessed our debut film with their voices, and as someone who worked closely on the music, that makes this album incredibly special to me. It is difficult to accept that we will never get the opportunity to record their voices again, but we feel truly blessed that they stood with us at the very beginning of our journey. Their voices have become a part of Dipholu’s emotional world, and we will cherish that blessing for the rest of our journey.”
The soundtrack includes ‘Xorogi Xopun’, featuring Zubeen Garg and Gayatri Hazarika, and ‘Prem Baru’, featuring Zubeen Garg and Rupali Kashyap, alongside songs featuring voices such as Rakesh Reeyan and Montumoni Saikia.
For Amrita Gogoi, who plays the central role, ‘Prem Baru’ carries a particularly emotional significance. “Prem Baru is very special to me because of the voice behind it. Even after we wrapped the shoot, I felt like I wanted to keep performing, because I knew I would never again get to perform to Zubeen da’s voice in this way. It was an emotional moment, but I am forever grateful for the opportunity. Zubeen da always reminded us to believe in Assamese cinema — ‘Douri douri jam, Axomiya cinema saam.’ Those words feel especially meaningful today. I would urge audiences to give Dipholu a chance, come to the theatres, listen to his voice, experience the story and celebrate Assamese cinema with us,” said Amrita.
With its premiere bringing together the Assamese film fraternity, Dipholu now heads towards its theatrical release on October 9, with the team hoping audiences will connect with its simple, rooted and deeply Assamese story.
