May 19,2014: Financial Times on Sunday reported that Facebook is developing its own video-chat app after it failed to acquire the messaging startup Snapchat. The new video chat app internally known as Slingshot would allow the users to send video messages using a touch screen. However the users would initially be able to send only short video messages. According to reports Facebook has been working now on Slingshot for several months and the social media giant plans to launch the new video chat app this month.

Though there are reports of Facebook launching this video chat app but there are a section of reports which say that the company might not launch the app which is being overseen by its chief Mark Zuckerberg at all. Late last year Facebook had unsuccessfully bid to take over Snapchat a very popular app which allows users to send photos through smartphones and these photos disappear automatically after a few seconds. The take over bid was reported at USD 3 billion. Facebook off late has been trying to integrate different apps into its social media platform and establishing itself in the app space by making moves like buying out Whatsapp.
