Aug 11, 2014:  Italy based Fiat Group appears to be all set to make inroads to the luxury automobile market in India with the launch of its high-end sports car dubbed Maserati. This step is believed to have taken due to the heavy demand of luxury cars in the country seen off late.  The anonymous company source claimed that the company has already started looking for two or three big dealers in metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.

Nagesh Basavanhalli, President and Managing Director at Fiat Chrysler India, however said that is too early to reveal regarding Maserati’s launch in India. Despite having stepped into the Indian market pretty early, Fiat is striving hard to reinvent its brand in the country and has come up with a slew of vehicles to gain the traction. Furthermore, it is claimed that the company is planning to expand its product portfolio to include non-Fiat branded cars as well.

Fiat is an international automobile firm that builds, produces and sells the vehicles under different brands names including Fiat, Alfa Romeo, etc. along with luxury brands Ferrari and Maserati. Of these, the Maserati brand is a century old and the flagship models under the same include sedans such as Quattroporte, Gran Turismo coupe, Ghibli sedan and GranCabrio convertible. These models are available in the price bracket of Rs 1.5 to Rs 3 crore on road.

As per the predictions by the industry executives, when it comes to the Indian market, Maserati will be challenging luxury brands such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Bentley.
