Bengaluru – 11 February 2026: Flipkart, India’s homegrown e-commerce marketplace, has achieved the prestigious Platinum certification under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for the Operations and Maintenance: Interior (O+M) rating system for its headquarters at Embassy Tech Village, Bengaluru. Awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the globally recognized and independent administrator of the LEED green building rating system, this certification represents the highest level of LEED recognition for sustainable operations, underscoring the company’s rigorous approach to energy efficiency, water stewardship, waste management, and indoor environmental quality. In addition, Myntra’s headquarters has also earned Platinum certification from the Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII-IGBC), demonstrating the Group’s unified commitment to operational sustainability.
Platinum certification under LEED Operations and Maintenance evaluates how buildings are actively operated and maintained, with a focus on real-time performance and continuous improvement. Flipkart’s certification reflects focused data-driven operational interventions implemented over the past year to reduce resource consumption, lower environmental impact, and improve workplace efficiency within an existing headquarters environment. These efforts are supported by structured facilities management systems aligned with global standards, including adherence to ISO 41001:2018, the international benchmark for effective, integrated facilities management systems that drive operational efficiency, risk management, and continual improvement.
Commenting on the milestone, Nishant Gupta, Head of Sustainability, Flipkart Group, said, “Sustainability is reflected in the choices we make every day in how we operate, how we use energy, manage water and handle waste. LEED Platinum certification for our headquarters validates the operational changes we have implemented to reduce our environmental footprint while creating a healthier, more efficient workplace for our teams. We see this achievement as both a responsibility and an opportunity to continue improving our headquarters, and to replicate proven best practices across Flipkart’s other offices and facilities, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable operations at scale.”
LEED is a transformative tool that ensures a building is designed and operated to achieve high performance, improve human health and protect the environment,” said Peter Templeton, President and CEO, USGBC. “By prioritizing sustainability, Flipkart is leading the way in its industry and helping USGBC continue towards our goal of green buildings for everyone within this generation.
Key Operational Interventions & Impact
This milestone reflects a thoughtful evolution of the company’s operational standards. The Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Services team pioneered the integration of new technologies, optimizing how resources are managed and elevating the overall operational agility. These efforts delivered the following outcomes:
Tech-Led Energy Efficiency: The campus utilizes an IoT-enabled air-conditioning management system that dynamically adjusts cooling based on occupancy patterns. This intelligent automation resulted in electricity savings of over 115,000 units in CY25 (vs. CY24).
Renewable Energy Integration: The headquarters’ energy mix prioritizes renewable sources, receiving green energy via the grid from a 100 MW solar power plant, supplemented by solar-powered lighting in common areas.
Closed-Loop Water Systems: Through integrated water management, nearly 60% of wastewater is recycled. The infrastructure includes a 300 KL rainwater storage tank and low-flow fixtures, dramatically reducing freshwater withdrawal.
Zero-Waste to Landfill: In a landmark move toward circularity, the company’s headquarters has achieved a 55% reduction in daily waste, slashing output from 900kg to just 400kg. This was driven by a rigorous ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ policy, which replaced all single-use disposables and tissue paper with premium, eco-friendly reusables. Today, 100% of the facility’s remaining waste is diverted from landfills through a combination of industrial composting, professional recycling, and advanced scientific processing.
Creating a Conscious Culture
Beyond infrastructure, the certification recognizes the Group’s efforts to embed sustainability into employee behavior. Initiatives like the ‘Trashy No More’ training module and dedicated infrastructure for EVs and cycling ensure that the workforce is an active participant in the company’s climate roadmap.
LEED Platinum certification aligns with the Group’s broader sustainability roadmap, which focuses on improving resource efficiency, eliminating waste to landfill and advancing low-carbon operations across offices and supply chain facilities in India.
