From Vision to Reality: How Counsel India, Helping Hands and Medhavi Skills University Are Shaping Northeast India's Mental Health Landscape

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between Counsel India Services Private Limited (Counsel India), Medhavi Skills University (Sikkim), and Helping Hands (HH) to build a Model Counseling Center that is the first of its kind in Northeast India. With this partnership, which was just announced, mental health issues in the area will be addressed holistically and with consideration for cultural differences.

Leading provider of counseling and practical psychology education, Counsel India teams up with renowned university Medhavi Skills University and nonprofit group Helping Hands to launch a game-changing effort. In the attempt to address mental health concerns that are common in the Northeastern community, this tri-party collaboration represents a critical turning point. The MOU describes a wide range of collaborative activities, including the creation of a Model Counseling Center at Mahatma Gandhi Center, Hong Village, Ziro, a “Emotional Well-Being Helpline” that is open from 9 AM to 9 PM, and online counseling support. The program seeks to build resilience in Northeast Indian kids by addressing a range of mental health issues, including addiction, stress, depression, and career guidance.

“We embark on this journey united, driven by the vision to enact substantial change and foster a society that not only values but also comprehends and supports mental health. Through our collective efforts, we envision a future where every individual in Northeast India has access to comprehensive mental health services, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives” said Mr. Bobby Thakur, the Founder & Chairman Executive of Counsel India.

“Our tri-party alliance, which is based on the values of compassion, cooperation, and dedication, aims to transform mental health services in Northeast India. Our constant dedication is to reduce barriers, simplify mental health, and establish a supportive atmosphere for overall wellbeing. We set out on a journey together to effect significant change and cultivate a society that values, understands and supports mental health. We anticipate a time when all people in Northeast India have access to comprehensive mental health care, enabling them to live robust and satisfying lives, via our combined efforts. The ambition of our founder drives us toward a more promising and health-conscious future.” Said Mr. Shivam Kumar Dixit, the Co-Founder of Counsel India.

“We see a transformative journey for mental health in Northeast India in partnership with committed partners.” I, Robin Hibu, as President of Helping Hands, am convinced that our tri-party alliance has the ability to transform mental health treatment. We want to work together to build an open, caring ecosystem that supports people’s wellbeing. Our goal is to eliminate stigma, break barriers, and instill optimism in Northeast India via our combined efforts. Let us work together to create an environment where mental health is valued and welcomed with open arms by using our common commitment as a catalyst for good change.”

This tri-party partnership shows a shared commitment to community well-being and is a major step towards treating mental health issues in Northeast India. It is expected that the Model Counseling Center would grow into a ray of hope, promoting mental wellness and resilience throughout the area.
