Future Kerala Mission: Governor Inaugurates Lecture Series and Idea Fest at Jain University, Kochi

"A Viksit Kerala is essential to achieve the goal of a Viksit Bharath”: Governor Rajendra Arlekar

Kochi: Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar inaugurated the lecture series and launched the Idea Fest under the Future Kerala Mission at Jain University, Kochi. Speaking on the occasion, he emphasized that a “viksit Kerala” is essential to achieving the goal of a “viksit Bharath”, noting that India’s all-round progress is possible only when Kerala advances.

The Governor said the concept of a “viksit Bharath” goes far beyond economic parameters. He called for questioning the Western idea of material prosperity and highlighted that true development, according to Indian philosophy, lies in the vision of “Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavantu” (May all be happy). “Our goal is comprehensive progress that includes everyone, without distinction of minority or majority. This is part of freeing Indian thought from colonial perspectives. A viksit Bharath will not be built on a slave mentality, but on self-respect and progressive thinking,” he added.

Citing examples, the Governor asked: “If even a small state like Goa can establish several marine industries, why can’t Kerala?” He urged reforms in the education system, calling for a shift from producing job-seekers to nurturing entrepreneurs. The National Education Policy, he said, is a strong step towards reconnecting with India’s cultural roots. Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, he added, forms a strong foundation for its future growth.

Prof. Dr. J. Letha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Jain University, Kochi, said the Future Kerala Mission is not just an academic initiative but a collective effort to positively transform society and governance. “The mission aims to empower students to think critically and face real-life challenges beyond the classroom, reflecting our commitment not only to the university but to the community as a whole,” she said.

Venu Rajamony, Chairman of the Future Kerala Mission, explained that the lecture series will bring eminent speakers every month to discuss key issues of Kerala. The Idea Fest, targeting school and college students, will promote practical solutions to developmental and social challenges. Proposed projects include transforming waste into art, creating a water pollution index for Kochi, tackling the water hyacinth problem and launching the “Professors of Practice” initiative to foster entrepreneurship with support from industry leaders.

The event was attended by Dr. Madhu Kumar, Controller of Examinations; Radhakrishnan, Head of Finance; faculty members; students and other distinguished guests.
