India, August 4th, 2026: The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP), the world’s leading professional association for risk management, has appointed Christopher Donohue as its Chief Executive Officer. Donohue will lead GARP’s next phase of global growth, with a focus on strengthening professional education, advancing industry research, and expanding engagement in high-growth markets such as India, where demand for globally benchmarked risk management expertise continues to rise.
A GARP veteran with more than two decades of leadership experience, Donohue will lead the organization’s next phase of growth, with a focus on advancing professional education, expanding research and industry collaboration, and equipping current and future risk professionals with the skills needed to navigate an increasingly complex risk landscape.
Prior to his appointment, Donohue served as Managing Director of the GARP Benchmarking Initiative (GBI)®, where he built one of the industry’s most respected independent benchmarking platforms. Under his leadership, GBI supported leading global banks, asset managers, and financial institutions through quantitative and qualitative benchmarking studies spanning a wide range of risk disciplines. Earlier, he also led GARP’s global risk education programs, helping strengthen its internationally recognized FRM Certification and other professional learning offerings.
As India continues to emerge as a global hub for financial services, Global Capability Centres (GCCs), technology innovation, and AI-led transformation, the demand for globally benchmarked risk management capabilities is growing rapidly. Through its Mumbai office, GARP aims to deepen its engagement with professionals, employers, academic institutions, and industry leaders to help build a future-ready risk workforce equipped to address both financial and emerging enterprise risks.
Commenting on his appointment, Christopher Donohue, Chief Executive Officer, GARP, said, “Risk management is evolving rapidly as organizations navigate new challenges driven by artificial intelligence, climate change, cyber threats, geopolitical uncertainty, and changing regulatory expectations. Our priority is to ensure that professionals have access to world-class education, research, and practical insights that enable them to lead with confidence. India is one of the most dynamic and strategically important markets for the future of the risk profession, and we look forward to expanding our engagement with its growing community of professionals, employers, and academic institutions to help develop the next generation of risk leaders.”
Donohue succeeds Richard Apostolik, who led GARP through a period of global expansion and strengthened the organization’s position as a non-partisan industry leader in financial risk management certification, research, and thought leadership.
Today, GARP’s globally recognized credentials—including the Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) Certification, Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR®) Certificate, and Risk and AI (RAI)™ Certificate support professionals across banking, financial services, consulting, technology, and enterprise risk functions in developing expertise to address evolving global risks that build resilience for their organizations.
