GJEPC Engages Delhi Customs to Refine Personal Carriage Jewellery Export SOPs

Bengaluru, 17 April 2025: In a proactive step towards streamlining jewellery export procedures, a delegation from the Northern Regional Office of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held a follow-up meeting with senior officials of Delhi Customs to refine the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for import/export via personal carriage.

The high-level meeting, held on 15th April, built upon discussions from an earlier session on 9th April and focused on Circular No. 09/25 – Customs, dated 28 April 2025. The aim is to establish a clear public notice to facilitate smoother trade practices and ensure transparency for the industry.

Senior customs officials in attendance included Mr. Dheeraj Rastogi, IRS, Principal Commissioner, Exports; Ms. Ashima Bansal, IRS, Commissioner, ACC Export; Mr. Vishal Pal Singh, IRS, Commissioner, Airport; Mr. Dibyakoli Singh, IRS, Deputy Commissioner, ACC Sheet; and Mr. Anuj Kumar Pandey, IRS, ADC, Airport. Representing GJEPC were Mr. Antarpal Singh Sawhney, Regional Chairman – North, and Mr. Anil Sankhwal, Convener, Studded Jewellery Panel.

The discussion primarily centred on optimising draft SOPs for hand-carry jewellery exports through the Precious Cargo Warehouse (PCW) at Celebi Terminal, Delhi. GJEPC representatives presented practical recommendations to alleviate procedural hurdles and expedite the clearance process, aiming to enhance efficiency and convenience for exporters.

Among the key proposals was a dedicated detention room for appraised parcels at the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) cargo shed, which would significantly reduce exporter wait times.

Responding positively, Mr. Rastogi assured that all suggestions would be reviewed and considered. He also advised GJEPC to coordinate with CWC authorities for space allocation to facilitate the implementation of the new measures.

Mr. Antarpal Singh Sawhney, Regional Chairman – North, GJEPC said, “The Northern Region has been actively working with Customs to bring much-needed clarity and efficiency to the personal carriage of jewellery exports. These improvements will greatly ease the operational challenges faced by our exporters and strengthen Delhi’s role as a critical export hub.”

This engagement reflects GJEPC’s ongoing commitment to advocating for industry-friendly policies and ensuring seamless export processes for its members.
