HCG Cancer Centre Mumbai Goes Silent to Speak Up Against Cancer

On World Cancer Day, hard-hitting placards take over Borivali railway station to spread awareness about cancer prevention and the importance of early detection

Mumbai, February 4, 2026: On World Cancer Day, HCG Cancer Centre, Mumbai began a silent fight against cancer at Borivali Railway Station, one of the busiest stations on the Western Railway line. As part of the initiative, the HCG team held placards and flexes displaying key messages on cancer prevention and early detection, ensuring maximum visibility and public engagement. Conducted during peak morning and evening commute hours, the activity created a strong impact on the by-passers.  Commuters were seen pausing to read the messages and reflect on the importance of prioritizing their health.

As part of the community outreach, HCG Cancer Centre, Mumbai also distributed free cancer screening coupons to encourage preventive action. Women commuters were offered free mammography screening coupons along with bindi packets, while men received free PSA test coupons for prostate cancer screening. The outreach focused on addressing screening hesitancy and improving awareness about early diagnosis among citizens.

Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Avik Chauhan, Cluster Chief Operating Officer, HCG Cancer Centre, Mumbai, said, “Early detection remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against cancer, yet many cases in India are still diagnosed at advanced stages. Cancer continues to be a major public health concern in the country, with a rising incidence of lifestyle related cancers and late-stage diagnoses. Public awareness initiatives play a vital role in encouraging individuals to seek timely screening and medical advice. Through this initiative, we aimed to take this crucial message beyond hospital walls and into the everyday lives of commuters by engaging with citizens at a public platform like the Indian Railways.”

Drawing inspiration from Mumbai’s resilient spirit, the campaign urged citizens to extend the same care they show for their loved ones to their own well-being. The initiative aimed to break the silence around cancer and reinforce the message that timely diagnosis can significantly improve outcomes.

Through this World Cancer Day initiative, HCG Cancer Centre, Mumbai reaffirmed its commitment to community-driven cancer awareness, preventive healthcare, and early diagnosis, aligning with global efforts to reduce the cancer burden.
