HDFC Bank and Kinnect Turn Laziness Into a Fraud-Fighting Superpower with ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’ on JioHotstar

A seven-episode comedy special premieres exclusively on JioHotstar, uses stand-up comedy to challenge urgency-led digital fraud.

Mumbai, 28th August 2026: Over the years, HDFC Bank’s Vigil Aunty has become one of Indian banking’s most recognizable and enduring fraud-awareness platforms, making digital safety simpler, more relatable and easier to remember. Now, HDFC Bank and Kinnect are taking the platform into a new entertainment format with ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’, a seven-episode stand-up comedy special premiering on JioHotstar.

Fraudsters thrive on urgency. They pressure people into acting before they have time to think, whether it is clicking a suspicious link, sharing an OTP or responding to threats involving scams such as Digital Arrest.

With ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’, HDFC Bank’s fraud-awareness mascot, Vigil Aunty, returns with an unconventional message for Indians: when something feels urgent, suspicious or too demanding, procrastination might just save the day.

Moving away from fear-led warnings and familiar banking advisories, the campaign transforms digital fraud awareness into a seven-episode stand-up comedy special, streaming on JioHotstar. The series features some of India’s most-loved comedians, including Aakash Gupta, Gaurav Kapoor, Ramkumar, Harsh Gujral, Sonu Venugopal, Munawar Faruqui and Kenny Sebastian.

Each comedian builds a set around a different form of everyday laziness, using humour to arrive at one simple fraud-prevention truth: taking a few extra moments before clicking, sharing or responding can help people stay safe.

By turning fraud awareness into entertainment, HDFC Bank moves the conversation away from fear-led warnings and banking lectures, and into content that people may willingly watch, enjoy and share. The campaign also marks the next evolution of Vigil Aunty, extending the platform from short-form awareness messaging into a long-form entertainment property.

Taking the idea beyond the screen, the campaign also comes alive through a distinctive outdoor execution built around the same thought. The billboard appears only half-finished, with workers seemingly too lazy to complete the installation, bringing the message ‘Laziness Has Spread Everywhere’ to life in an unexpected way. By making the medium itself part of the joke, the outdoor execution extends the humour of ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’ into the real world and reinforces the campaign as a truly integrated platform.

Ravi Santhanam, Chief Marketing Officer & Group Head, HDFC Bank said, “Fraudsters use panic and urgency to manipulate people into making quick mistakes. ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’ intends to talk to audiences in a language they love – comedy. Vigil Aunty, along with India’s top stand-up comedians, will spread awareness on the modus operandi used by fraudsters. We are delighted to leverage the network of JioHotstar in this endevaour to reach a wide audience to share the message of staying alert while transacting on digital platforms.”

Jahid Ahmed, Senior Vice President – Head of Growth and Digital Marketing, HDFC Bank added, “We recognised that engaging today’s audiences means speaking their language. With stand-up comedy now resonating across generations, we saw an opportunity to make digital safety a conversation that people genuinely want to engage with. Fraudsters thrive on fake urgency, so we flipped the script, showing people that pausing, being ‘lazy’ can actually be the ultimate cheat code to staying safe from fraud,”

Speaking on the campaign, Chandni Shah, CEO, Kinnect said, “Vigil Aunty has demonstrated the power of building a sustained and culturally relevant platform around an important public-interest issue. With ‘Vigil Aunty Says – Laziness Saves’, we saw an opportunity to take that platform into a completely new format, bringing together entertainment, education and popular culture. By turning fraud awareness into something people would actively choose to watch, the integrated campaign makes an important behavioural message more accessible to all.”

Yogesh Mani Pradhan, Group ECD, Kinnect added, “Humour can make people engage with subjects they would otherwise avoid or tune out of. Bringing together seven brilliant comedians allowed us to turn a serious public-safety message into something people would actively choose to watch.”

The seven-episode comedy special premiered exclusively on JioHotstar and is now available to stream.
