Two Comedians, One Frame! The iconic Eddie Murphy and Gen Z’s favorite Pete Davidson come together to treat fans with endless laughter and mind-blowing action moves in the upcoming Amazon MGM film The Pickup. The American heist film checks all the boxes of an entertaining action comedy, from packing a punch, to rib-tickling laughs and more. As the unlikely comedic duo take on the chaos on screen, it’s the real life die-hard fan meeting his ultimate hero that has us hooked! Davidson, an American comedian, actor, and writer, shared his adoration for the legendary Eddie Murphy while speaking on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
A fanboy through and through, Davidson gushed about Murphy recalling his childhood. He said, “It’s a dream come true. I obviously found out first from Donkey. It was like 2001, I was seven, but then I became such a fan of his. I found out who he was, and then I went to F.Y.E. and Sam Goody, they just had an Eddie Murphy section! They had DVDs, whatever. I was like, ‘This Donkey guy rules, so I’ll watch whatever.’ I saw Eddie Murphy: Delirious, one of the best specials ever.” He further revealed how his mom secretly allowed him to watch Eddie Murphy’s films, and he was always in awe, thinking, “Donkey’s crazy. Donkey got some ideas.”
Davidson continued, “He’s my hero, so it was amazing getting to work with him. It’s the best. It’s also just like any comedian will tell you, it’s Eddie, and then everyone else. He’s in a league of his own.” Pete revealed how he kept his fandom under wraps until The Pickup wrapped, and then he told Murphy how much he loved him. He also shared how his inner fanboy influenced his decision to take on The Pickup: “When I got the offer, I didn’t even read it. I was like, ‘Yes.’ And then I read it, and it was great.”
The Pickup is an upcoming action comedy film produced and directed by Tim Story and written by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. The film stars Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer and Pete Davidson in pivotal roles and is set to be released on Prime Video on August 6, 2025 in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
