India’s book publishing market is projected to reach INR 2 Lakh Crore by 2030-31, according to the India Book Market Report

NielsenIQ BookData and The Federation of Indian Publishers (FIP) are delighted to announce the release of the India Book Market Report 2026-30.

New Delhi, India, 4 September 2026: The Federation of Indian Publishers (FIP), in partnership with NielsenIQ BookData, announced the release of the India Book Market Report 2026-2030, providing an evidence based detailed report offering a detailed assessment of India’s rapidly evolving publishing sector.  

According to the report, nationally launched in New Delhi, India’s book publishing market is projected to reach ₹2 lakh crore by 2030–31, reflecting the sector’s strong growth trajectory and its growing importance to the country’s knowledge economy. The projection underscores the expanding demand for books and publishing services, while highlighting the sector’s potential to emerge as a significant contributor to India’s broader creative and knowledge-driven economy. 

The report examines the outlook for print, digital and scholarly publishing, together with the role of education, research, Indian-language publishing, economic contribution, Artificial Intelligence and policy frameworks in shaping the sector’s future. It highlights emerging opportunities for growth, innovation and investment while recognising the importance of copyright protection, creator rights and responsible technology adoption. The report concludes that India has the foundations of a globally relevant knowledge industry and should focus on strengthening the quality, reach and sustainability of growth.
