Recently, Intel and OSHU together have announced their plans to launch the Collaborative Cancer Cloud, an Open-Platform-as-a-service solution that enables large amount of patients’ genomic and bio-imaging data to be analyzed over the cloud in a distributive manner to extract vital information out of it.

The understanding is to derive huge benefits out of Big Data Technologies and use them in treating cancer to save millions. Intel’s cloud-analytics based platform will host a shared data center that allows clinical data to be shared among different sites in a secure way. Cancer Cloud is the resultant of Intel’s supercomputing technologies and the use of bio-science to make cancer treatment more efficient, cost-effective and in just a day!

With the precision medicine it is anticipated to adopt cloud-based genomic analytics and genomic sequencers considering the differences in people’s genes and environments to mark an exceptional breakthrough in medicine. Through this platform a gob of clinicians, researchers and developers can have access to genetic data to work out solutions for any disease with genetic component.

Millions of people over the globe every year are diagnosed with cancer, an eerie disease with no specific medications or treatment has been the research focus of many institutions all over the world. Intel has pointed out that its focus is on distributing private data sets made public for research purposes while preserving the privacy and security simultaneously, as their trading point which has given them leverage among numerous other multi-institution partnership projects like IBM with Cleveland Clinic or Syapse,  targeting the same domain.

Intel also revealed that the cancer cloud gathers and processes the health related information from Discovery Peak, the company’s own data analytics software.

The Company announced to open-source the key components of Collaborative Cancer Cloud to developers’ community in the First Quarter of year 2016 so that they could develop their customized solutions based on the given platform.

Over the next year, Intel expects a few more institutions, public or private, to join up with them and formulate solutions better than the conventional ones.
