MUMBAI, Mar 14, 2025 – Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has partnered with SpaceX to launch Starlink’s satellite broadband services in India. Once regulatory approvals are in place, this collaboration will transform internet access by delivering high-speed, low-latency connectivity to even the most remote areas.
Jio will handle the distribution of Starlink equipment through its retail stores and online platforms. It will also provide installation and activation support, making satellite internet more accessible across the country.
As India’s largest mobile operator by data traffic, Jio is using its vast reach to complement Starlink’s advanced Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology. This partnership aims to bridge the digital divide by providing seamless broadband access to villages, businesses, and schools. By integrating Starlink with JioFiber and JioAirFiber, Jio is strengthening its commitment to expanding digital infrastructure where traditional networks fall short.
This deal marks a major step in India’s digital revolution, positioning Jio as a leader in satellite broadband. It also comes at a time when competition is heating up, with Bharti Airtel recently announcing a similar collaboration with SpaceX.
Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, expressed confidence in the initiative, stating, “We are excited to work with SpaceX to bring Starlink to India, ensuring that high-speed broadband reaches every corner of the country. This partnership strengthens our mission to empower businesses, enterprises, and communities by expanding access to world-class connectivity in an AI-driven era.”
Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, also emphasized the importance of this partnership: “Jio’s dedication to advancing India’s connectivity aligns with our vision of making Starlink accessible to more people and businesses. We look forward to working together and receiving the necessary authorizations to provide cutting-edge internet services across India.”
As digital demand grows, this collaboration could reshape India’s internet landscape. With satellite technology overcoming infrastructure challenges, Jio and SpaceX are poised to lead the next phase of India’s broadband expansion, ensuring no region is left behind.
