KL Deemed to be University one of the prestigious university in India, has secured a remarkable achievement by winning the esteemed ‘Excellence in Water Use Efficiency Water Users in Domestic Sector’ award at the TERI-IWA-UNDP [The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)- The International Water Association (IWA) – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 3rd Water Sustainability Awards 2023-2024. This award recognizes the University for its Outstanding Commitment to water conservation and sustainability efforts.

The award ceremony held on the auspicious occasion of World Water Day 2024 at Jacaranda Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, witnessed KL Deemed to be University’s exemplary initiatives towards water management being honored. The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in collaboration with the International Water Association (IWA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), organized the event with the support of various esteemed partners including the Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, The Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, United Nations Development Programme, United States, and Partners Delhi Jal Board, Deendayal Port Authority Kandla, Jindal Water Infrastructure Ltd. Sustainable Water Management.

Dr. G. P. Saradhi Varma, Vice-Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University, expressed his pride in the institution’s achievements, stating  “As we celebrate this prestigious award, let it serve as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard our planet’s most precious resource – water. At University, we are committed to innovative solutions and sustainable practices that ensure a brighter, more water-secure future for generations to come.” 

Dr. Vullanki Rajesh, Dean of Planning and Development at KL Deemed to be University, accepted the award on behalf of the institution. The university’s initiatives spanning across the academic years 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23, implemented at its premises in Vijayawada campus were particularly lauded for their innovation and impactful contributions to water conservation and sustainability.

KL Deemed to be University remains committed to promoting a culture of environmental responsibility and this recent recognition adds to the university’s already illustrious list of achievements in the domain of sustainability and environmental protection. Previously, KL Deemed to be University has been recognized with several prestigious awards including the Appreciation award under the best energy-efficient commercial buildings/Hostels category in the 7th edition of CII National Energy Efficiency Circle Competition 2023, Winner (1st Prize) in The Green Rankings 2023, and Winner (1st Prize) for Best Water Management Institution at the World Water Awards by Water Digest,  Winner (1st Prize)  for EHS Best Practices – Greentech International EHS Award – 2023, Winner (1st Prize) – State Energy Conservation Award (SECA) 2022,  State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, Winner Energy Efficient Unit, Best Solid Waste Management Practices 3rd Prize, Excellence in Water Management, Swachh Campus Ranking 2017 of Higher Educational Institutions – 2nd Prize, Swachh Campus Ranking 2019 of Higher Educational Institutions – 1st Prize, Certificate of Excellence (AICTE National Level Clean & Smart Campus Award 2020), Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GIRHA) 2021 – 5 Star Rated Building, Winner- District Green Champion Certificate 2021, State Energy Conservation Award (SECA) 2021 – Gold Category Award, among others.
