Kochi Biennale: Dutch Artist Afra Eisma to Lead Interactive Sessions and Workshops on March 28-29

Kochi: The Muziris Biennale will present the renowned Dutch artist Afra Eisma to hold a series of interactive dialogues and creative workshops on March 28 and 29 at the Dutch Warehouse in Fort Kochi. The program is scheduled to coincide with her current exhibition, The Mild Tooth of Milk, which is organized by the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP). This collaboration provides a rare opportunity for the public to engage directly with Eisma’s multidisciplinary practice. To facilitate these exchanges, the artist will be available for two dedicated interaction sessions daily, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

Based in the prominent art hubs of The Hague and Amsterdam, Afra Eisma has gained international acclaim for her distinctive sculptures crafted from textiles and vibrant ceramics. Her work serves as a powerful medium for social commentary, addressing sensitive and grave issues such as gender-based violence and mental health. Through her creative practice, Eisma aims to transform artistic spaces into sanctuaries of love, care, and solidarity.

The weekend programming continues with two workshops focused on blending traditional crafts with personal narratives. On Saturday, March 28, from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Eisma will facilitate a doll-making session where participants use socks and recycled fabrics to share their stories of resilience.

The focus shifts on Sunday, March 29, to an upcycled weaving workshop held from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Led by prominent artist and India Art Project curator Simi Mary, this session encourages participants to transform discarded threads and once-worn clothing into individual pieces of art. As a founder dedicated to social change through art, Mary will guide attendees in reimagining everyday materials through a creative lens.

The organizers have also urged the participants to help in the sustainable effort by bringing their own old fabrics to the courses. Interested people can also contact the organizers at +91 73568 42839 or +91 70934 00864 for any further inquiries or registration.
