India Today Group’s Vice Chairperson and Executive Editor-in-Chief, Kalli Purie, emphasised that literature binds the fragile threads of life as she inaugurated the 8th edition of Sahitya Aaj Tak, which brought together the who’s who from fields of literature, art, and music. Speaking at the annual event in Delhi, Purie reflected on the unpredictability of life, mentioning the tragic incidents that marked 2025 – from the Pahalgam terror attack to the Air India crash in Ahmedabad.
2025 began on a sombre note for India, with the terrorist attack in Pahalgam when innocent tourists were enjoying the beauty of the picturesque Baisaran Valley, leaving 26 dead. Two months later, another tragedy unfolded when Air India flight 171, en route to London from Ahmedabad, crashed into a medical college building, killing 260 people.
Kalli Purie said such incidents underscore the fragility of life. “Zindagi ek safar hai suhana, yahaan kal kya ho kisne jaana (Life is a beautiful journey, but you never know what tomorrow holds),” the India Today Group Vice Chairperson said, quoting the Kishore Kumar classic. Amid the unpredictability of life, Purie reflected on the importance of literature in shaping stronger relationships.
