National, 18 August 2026: Mahindra Racing secured third in the 2025/26 FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship after Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara finished second and third in the final race of the GEN3 era at ExCeL London. The result took the team to 252 points, its highest single-season total and matched its best championship finish.
Rounds 16 and 17 of the 2025/2026 FIA Formula E Championship took place at the London ExCeL Circuit, and a pair of unpredictable races unfolded in dramatic fashion to decide the final championship positions for both the teams and the drivers.
On Saturday, Mahindra Racing celebrated Indian Independence Day with an impressive comeback drive from Mortara. Both drivers featured at the top of the practice timesheets, but Qualifying didn’t go as smoothly, with Nyck lining up ninth, while Edoardo qualified 13th and started 18th.
In the race itself, a late Full Course Yellow played against de Vries’ strategy, dropping him back to 13th at the chequered flag. Mortara, meanwhile, gained 11 places to finish seventh on a special day for the team.
On Sunday, de Vries and Mortara fought all the way through the Duels to set up an all-Mahindra Final. De Vries got the better of his team-mate to take pole position, giving Mahindra a front-row lockout and a fifth pole of the 2026 season.
At the race start, both drivers got a clean getaway, holding their grid positions through the opening sequence of corners and through the first five laps.
On Lap 6, de Vries activated his Attack Mode and managed to maintain the lead, while Mortara attempted to follow suit a lap later, and despite missing the activation point, held onto second place.
Mortara then got through into the lead, and on Lap 22, activated his own Attack Mode without relinquishing first place. With one Attack Mode remaining each, de Vries made his way back past Mortara and in the closing stages, the Mahindra drivers synchronised use of their final allocation of extra power.
De Vries and Mortara eventually finished second and third respectively after a late Attack Mode deployment from Taylor Barnard was enough to deny the Mahindra drivers victory, but the double podium had bigger implications for the team.
A remarkable 42-point haul from the London double-header meant Mahindra secured a richly deserved third place in the Teams’ Championship on 252 points, while Mortara finished fifth and de Vries seventh in the Drivers’ Championship on 137 and 115 points respectively. Over the course of the season, the team has recorded two wins, five further podiums and five pole positions.
Celebrating a well-deserved second place for Mahindra, Nyck de Vries said: “We couldn’t have wished for a better end. Our objective this weekend was to finish third in the Teams’ Championship which I think was a realistic but challenging target. We had a tough Saturday, but bounced back today and everyone delivered. We executed and raced like a team.
“I can sense a subtle disappointment for not winning, which I think is fair, but ultimately, our main priority was to finish third and that’s what we’ve achieved by racing the way we did. We can be very happy. A double podium is a great result and honestly, we can’t wish for anything more.”
After completing a double podium for the team, Edoardo Mortara commented: “It was a very eventful and intense day, but we’ve come away achieving exactly what we were targeting. Clipping the wall in the groups phase made the duels super complicated, and the car was all over the place, but we got through to the final which was incredible.
“From there, the race was positive. We executed well and we managed to get third in the Teams’ Championship which is a massive step in the right direction compared to last year. I’m super happy with what we achieved today, and the season as a whole.”
Commenting on a successful season for Mahindra, Team Principal & CEO Frederic Bertrand added: “Today is an important result for Mahindra Racing. To finish the season with our first front-row lockout, both cars on the podium and third in the Teams’ World Championship says a great deal about the level this team has reached.
“Last season we finished fourth with 186 points; this season we finish third with 252, alongside two wins, five pole positions and seven podiums. The numbers show the progress, but they come from the standards, ownership and consistency across the whole organisation, from the team at the circuit to everyone in Banbury, our colleagues in India and our partners.
“Mahindra took the first pole of the GEN3 era and the last. We can be proud of the way we have closed this chapter, and now our responsibility is to carry this level of work into GEN4.”
