Microsoft’ “GR for Growth” digital initiative starts from Greece

Microsoft has announced digital initiative for Greece with the establishment of data centre in Greece and empower 100,000 people with digital technological skills. Microsoft believes in Greece’s recovering economy and wish to contributes towards its economy after 28 years of operation in the country. It also reflects optimism in Greece’s future, its forward-leaning government, and the country’s ongoing economic recovery.

Microsoft has created an ecosystem of 3000 partners and customers in the last 28 years of operation. These partners and customers are Startups, NGOs, and enterprises. Microsoft aims to be a technology ally in driving growth, now and for the generations to come for Greece.

Today’s announcement will capacitate the local companies, startups, and institutions to use cloud computing and maintain high cybersecurity, data residency, and compliance standards.

With the establishment of the Greece datacenter region, companies will get local access to Microsoft’s full set of cloud services that include:

  • Microsoft Azure: A set of cloud services offering computing, networking, databases, analytics, AI, and IoT services.
  • Dynamics 365 and Power Platform: Next-gen intelligent business application to meet the needs of customers and capture new opportunities.
  • Microsoft 365: Best-of-breed productivity apps integrated through cloud services and delivered as part of an open platform for business processes.
  • Compliance, security, and privacy: Offers more than 90 certifications with $1 billion expense to maintain cloud security. It will allow customers to store data at rest in Greece.
  • Sustainably operated: The company aims to shift to 100% renewable energy for its data centers by 2025 and commits to being carbon negative by 2030

Accelerating digital transformation and innovation

Leading companies like Eurobank, National Bank of Greece, OTE Group, and Public Power Corporation (DEI), is committing to use Microsoft’s cloud services and optimize their processes and increase customer satisfaction through advanced collaboration. The company is also collaborating with the Ministry of Culture and Sports to bring the Ancient City of Olympia to life using AI and other technologies. It will provide an immersive, 3D presentation of the monuments and artifacts as they were about 3,000 years ago.

Microsoft will also expand employment opportunities for local professionals and youth over the next five years. Microsoft aims to accelerate the digital transformation of public and private organizations through online & physical courses along with workshops.
