New Delhi, September 15, 2026: Mother Dairy, India’s beloved milk and milk products brand, has been recognised at the eminent Kyoorius Design Awards 2026 for its packaging innovation – India’s First Naturally Degradable Milk Pouch in soil – launched in June 2026. The packaging innovation has received recognition across two distinct areas at the awards – ‘Sustainable Design’ under the Design in Action track and ‘Responsible Packaging Design’ under the Design Craft track.
The dual recognition places the innovation at the intersection of purpose-led design and packaging craft, acknowledging both its potential to address an important environmental challenge and the design thinking behind adapting a familiar, everyday milk pouch for a more responsible end-of-life.
Since 2013, the Kyoorius Design Awards have honoured and recognised excellence across Indian design, encompassing Visual Communications, Marketing, Architecture and Interiors. The Blue Elephant is recognised as an industry benchmark for the highest creative achievement within a category.
Talking about the recognition, Mr. Jayatheertha Chary, Managing Director, Mother Dairy, said, “We are delighted to receive two Blue Elephant Awards at the coveted Kyoorius Design Awards. The recognition validates our approach to creating innovation that is relevant and practical at scale. Our India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch has been designed to ensure a seamless consumer experience, with no changes required in the way consumers store, handle or dispose of the pouch, while significantly improving its environmental profile. For us, this is what meaningful innovation is about – bringing together science, packaging innovation and consumer-centric thinking to address an important environmental challenge in a way that can seamlessly become part of everyday life.”
Guided by its brand promise of ‘Care’, Mother Dairy had introduced India’s first naturally degradable milk pouch in soil in June 2026, beginning with its famed Cow Milk variant in Delhi NCR. The newly introduced milk pouch uses a first-of-its-kind degradable packaging innovation that enables the material to transform into bioavailable wax, which is naturally broken down by microbes present in the soil to turn it into natural elements. This helps address the challenge of fugitive plastic and contributes towards a cleaner ecosystem.
Furthermore, the brand introduced a refreshed design language for its milk portfolio in collaboration with brand consultancy firm, Landor. Central to the packaging refresh is the ‘Note of Care’, a distinctive brand device inspired by the brand’s iconic logo, bringing alive the promise of Maa Jaisi care through relatable everyday expressions – whether it is a reminder to “drink your milk” or a gentle nudge to “get home safe” – in a fun, fresh and contemporary manner, reflecting Mother Dairy’s warmth and affection. Complementing the holding structure, the refreshed packaging design also introduces cleaner typography and brighter visual tones, creating a more modern and cohesive brand identity.
