Mumbai, October 30, 2026: India has built digital rails that have transformed how people make payments, access financial services and manage their money. The next opportunity is to make financial data equally easy for consumers to use.
The Account Aggregator (AA) framework enables individuals to securely share their financial information digitally between regulated financial institutions, based on their explicit consent. It can reduce the need to repeatedly collect and submit financial documents, while giving consumers control over what information they share, for how long, with whom and for what purpose.
Yet the technology is ahead of consumer awareness. Nandan Nilekani launched Sahamati’s AAseAasaanHai, a consumer awareness campaign aimed at making Account Aggregator easier to understand and helping consumers recognise how consent-based data sharing can simplify their financial journeys.
Launched at SamvAAd 2026, Sahamati’s flagship conclave for the AA ecosystem, the campaign begins with three short films that bring AA to life through simple, relatable situations. The films show how consumers can use their financial information when they need it, without the friction of repeatedly finding, downloading and submitting documents.
BG Mahesh, CEO, Sahamati said, “Account Aggregator has created a new way for consumers to use their financial information. The opportunity now is to make that capability familiar to millions of people. AAseAasaanHai is about making AA simple to understand and showing consumers that their financial information can work for them, while they remain in control of how it is shared. Digital public infrastructure creates its greatest impact when people can understand it without needing to understand the technology behind it. With AAseAasaanHai, we want to make the consumer proposition clear: your financial data is yours, you decide when to share it, and it can make financial services easier to access.”
The ecosystem has already moved well beyond an emerging technology. Since its launch in 2021, AA has enabled more than 2.8 billion financial accounts, with over 313 million accounts linked and more than 500 million consents fulfilled. More than 6 billion data fetches have been facilitated through the ecosystem.
Its impact is also increasingly visible in financial services. In FY26, approximately ₹3.82 lakh crore in lending was facilitated through AA across 3.68 crore loans. Use cases are also expanding across insurance, investments and personal financial management.
Beyond convenience, the ability to digitally and securely share financial information can also support greater financial inclusion. For consumers, particularly those who may have limited formal documentation or financial histories spread across multiple institutions, easier access to their own financial information can reduce friction in accessing formal financial services.
The next phase is about moving from ecosystem adoption to consumer awareness and everyday use. As AA expands across financial services, building consumer understanding will be important to ensuring that the benefits of this infrastructure reach a broader population.
AAseAasaanHai will build on the three launch films through digital content and consumer outreach, helping more consumers understand what AA is, how consent works and how they can use their financial information to access financial services with greater ease and control.
