NGMA Celebrates Rabindranath Tagore’s 165th Birth Anniversary with “Gurudevaya – The Rising Sun Through the Eyes of Bhanu”

11 th May, 2026 New Delhi: The National Gallery of Modern Art, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, successfully hosted the special theatrical presentation “Gurudevaya – The Rising Sun Through the Eyes of Bhanu” on the occasion of the 165th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

The evening beautifully celebrated Gurudev’s timeless vision, philosophy, and immense contribution to Indian literature, culture, and the arts through an immersive blend of theatre, storytelling, music, and artistic performances. The presentation brought together eminent personalities from the fields of governance, art, culture, theatre, and fashion, making it a memorable cultural gathering in the capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Director General, NGMA, said, “Rabindranath Tagore’s legacy transcends generations and continues to inspire India’s cultural and artistic spirit. Through ‘Gurudevaya,’ we wished to present an experience that not only honours Gurudev’s literary brilliance but also reflects the emotional and philosophical depth of his vision.”

The evening was graced by Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, as the Chief Guest.

The Guests of Honour included Kapil Mishra, Sonal Mansingh, Mandira Wirk, and Meenu Thakur.
Sharing his thoughts during the event, Kapil Mishra said, “Rabindranath Tagore’s teachings and literary contributions remain deeply relevant even today. Such cultural initiatives play a vital role in keeping India’s artistic heritage alive for younger generations.”

Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh remarked, “Tagore was not just a poet but a spiritual and cultural force whose work continues to awaken sensitivity, creativity, and consciousness within society.”

Fashion designer Mandira Wirk shared, “It is always inspiring to witness art and culture being celebrated with such depth and elegance. Gurudev’s vision continues to influence creativity across generations and disciplines.”
Theatre artist and actress Meenu Thakur added, “Theatre has the power to emotionally connect audiences with history and literature, and this presentation beautifully captured the essence of Tagore’s legacy and artistic brilliance.”

The event concluded with immense appreciation from the audience and reaffirmed NGMA’s continued commitment to promoting India’s rich artistic and cultural heritage through meaningful initiatives and performances.
