NPCI to launch Mudra credit card within a year

The NPCI, National Payment Corporation of India that is a sunshade institution for the retail payments is planning to make an announcement. As per a senior official with the institution, the company will launch three cards within a year. Of these cards, there will be a credit card as well called Mudra credit card and an international card as well. This was confirmed by its Chairman, M Balachandran.

The NPCI announced the launch of the RuPay payment scheme sometime back. It is now in discussion with the Chinese and Japanese bank card associations to facilitate Indians to avail the international services where they are operating. He confirmed this by saying that the NPCI is in talks with JCB that is based in Japan and China Union Pay as well.

Talking of the NPCI transactions, the company’s Chairman stated that the transactions have increased to around 20 million a day from 2 million a day before five years. In the last month, the NPCI received 550 million overall transactions. Besides reaching 20 million a day right now, it is expected that the number of transactions will rise to 40 million a day in just two to three months. It is likely that the figure will reach the milestone of 100 million transactions in a day in just a few months. He also revealed that the necessary expansion measures are being implemented right now.

The number of transactions per day includes the withdrawals at the ATMs, cheese clearing, and point of sales (POS) operations as well.

Today, NPCI held the e-Payments Literacy Workshop in 120 locations across the country to educate the public. The participants of the workshop were given a clear insight of the security tips involved in mobile number registrations, linking of Aadhaar card with banks and other payment solutions, and many other aspects.
